This beer was quite dark with the pour and had a nice tan head. I had trouble picking up on aroma, as I often do with festival pours. Never the less, this had a pretty decent flavor to it. Lots of chocolate, a bit of coffee, and nut with this beer...the wheatiness of the beer kind of throws me off, but it’s not a bad throw off. As I am coming to find out more and more, shorts sure does make a good beverage.

On tap at HopCat. Appearance is a deep chocolate with a thin tan head. The aromas and flavors are coco powder and mild roasted malts. Mouth is slightly powdery but mainly creamy. A sold brew.

Huge chocolate aroma, some coffee some nut. Flavor is deliciously chocolatey, lots of dark wheat fruits. Is this a porter? a stout? a dunkel? regardless, its a great beer. bdigital (591), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2009 Draft @ Hopcat in GR...poured a dark brown/black with a medium tan head. The nose had notes of chocolate, roasted malts, some dark cherry and wheat. Medium bodied, silky mouth feel. Taste was unlike any other porter I’ve tried...mainly some chocolate truffle, coffee and nutty flavors coming through but the back end of this is where it shines. The wheat is very apparent IMO and takes this brew to a different level. Very nice porter. Sammy (4051), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 26, 2009 Sampled draft at HopCat (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a black pour, ruby edges, near opaque, with decent brown head that laces well. Aromas are creamy chocolate, a touch wheat, but slight bitterness and cocoa take over. Initial is creamy, a touch bitter or wheaty on the backend, but initial is creamy chocolate and a touch bitter, faint peanut butter or peanut? Very interesting, full for a wheat body. Still, flavorful and interesting. Very nice brew! Cheers! Hudspart (372), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 8, 2009 On tap at Hopcat. Pours a deep brown with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is very heavy milk chocolate with a hint of cherry jam fruitiness. Flavor starts sweet and sugary with more milk chocolate but gains a dark fruitiness that gives a nice sharpness to balance the soft wheat character. Finishes with a real cocoa powder like bitterness that rides through the aftertaste with some earthy hops. Medium bodied and a soft carbonation. A nice dessert beer, not overly complex or full bodied and easy drinking.
