Tons of malt in the aroma. Biscuit and toffee. Flavor is much more complex than a typical red ale: caramel sweetness, light earthy spice, bread, and dark fruit. Relatively light carbonation. Nice session for the fall! gearbike (418), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 21, 2009 A nice suprise to find a Short’s on tap I have never tried or even heard of. going in blind I was plesantly suprised.
Rich orange color with a nice sweet smell. I don’t think I was influenced bye the time of year but the Magician really reminds me of an Oktoberfest. It is very drinkable but less than some normal ales. It has a bit of a backbone of carmel and bitterness. MereLikesBeer (158), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 9, 2009 I had this on tap, poured a dark reddish brown with a tiny tan head. It had a caramel, malty aroma and tasted much the same. It was rather sweet, but not overpowering. I enjoyed this beer, nice medium body, light carbonation...it would be a good drinking beer. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 24, 2009 Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a growler. This brew is a clear reddish-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that diminishes quickly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Light caramel malt and fruit in the nose. Light, clean body with flavors of toasted malt and caramel flavors along with some fresh fruit. The finish is short and malty with a light fruit aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.
