biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Jan 25, 2006 Very dark with mahagony high lights. No head. Burnt grain and chocolate aroma. Big body with some noticable alcohol. Chalky cocoa and char flavor. Good finishing bitterness. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Nov 28, 2004 Pours a lite black. About the color of Guinness. Head is light brown with no lacing. Aroma is burnt grains with some french roast coffee in there. This is a very lite bodied Impy. Rather weak. Very little complexity. Just a lot of roasted flavors. Barely any character malts. Fairly bitter finish. This is just poor. The only nice thing I can say is that the abv is hidden well. One of the worst Impies I’ve had. igel (196), New Mexico, USA Nov 27, 2004 Pours a deep dark brown with a light tan head. Retention and carbonation are low and the lacing is sticky. Aroma is malty roasty with coffee notes and some very light aroma hop. Flavor is sweet at the start with a dry finish and a lingering rasted taste. Taste appears more complex as you delve into the beer. Lots of roastiness and caramel rolling around with some lingering roasty hoppiness. Palate is medium bodied with low effervescence and that lingering roasted finish. IMHO: not intensely complex, but one of the more full bodied/high gravity beers coming out of New Mexico. It’s a good start and a nice change. Go for it Sierra Blanca. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA Oct 14, 2003 tap-nitrogen at brewpub-hmm, well the palate may have been down due to the nitrogen tap. I have never herd of a imperial stout on nitrogen before. aroma was good-sweet coffee and roasted notes-appearance was black with minimal head-flavor was a little subdued for an imperial-maybe to thin. wish they bottled this stuff!!
