badgerben (2990), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Aug 28, 2007 Updated: Apr 12, 2008 IPA #100; 2007 Vintage. Copper appearance with a thin head. Raw, leafy hop aroma. More like pure alpha acid smell than citrus or pine. Punishing bitterness with some of the expected pine taste. More woody than the usual pine though. Not much malt to balance it out. Not as good as I’d hope for.
hapjydeuce (522), Carlsbad, California, USA Jul 18, 2008 Bottled. 2008. Clear amber color with a fat off-white head that leaves serious lacing throughout the glass. Small but pleasurable pine aroma with a touch of peppery caramel. The bitter component is forefront in the flavor, while the malt base is quite restrained. Finishes crisp with a light and fruity floral note. Very drinkable, just not all there in the flavor. the_chandler (168), West Virginia, USA Jul 17, 2008 Pours a crystal-copper color with a foamy eggshell head. Aroma is hoptastic. Flavor...BOOM, You can REALLY taste those cascade hops. Very woodsy. Not going to lie, this brew is mostly all about those beautiful cascades, not too much going on other than that. Its a very solid IPA though. BMan1113VR (628), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Jul 16, 2008 2008 Bottle. Pours with a largish, rocky, off-white head covering a murky orange to copper body. Outstanding lacing. Aroma of spicey Cascade hops, caramel and light acetaldehyde. Taste is a bit watery, then a bit bitter and grainy at the back, finishing clean. Water like mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Simcoe (3), , California, USA does not count Jul 15, 2008 Drunk side by side with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, this beer can teach someone what dry hopping is all about; it’s a great beer for its pedagogical value alone. Pretty easy hop bitterness for an American IPA, but the malt character would be obscured by any more hops. Cleaner finish than I usually associate with Chinook for bittering, which is a good thing. RSRIZZO (945), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jul 13, 2008 Aroma is a big fresh hop scent. Color is a deep golden with good carbonation and a nice head. Taste is hoppy and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down crisp with a hop aroma detectable right from the start. Finish comes in with a mellow malt flavor that is overtaken by a bold fresh hop flavor then a nice bitterness. After taste leaves you with a lingering bitterness and a clean dry feel. This is a very good and well balanced IPA.
