Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

I have heard good things about Sierra Nevada, but I could barely finish a 12oz bottle of this brew. It poured a very muddy amber, and smelled like a bouquet of flowers and hops. I very much enjoyed those aspects of it. The taste was far too bitter for me. I think I would have enjoyed this beer if there had been less hops used.

Bottle, The Cave. Clear dark amber colour, off-white head. Aroma is very malty, with some bitter hops. Flavour of pine resin, fruits, and sweet malts. Syrupy. Bitter finish.

On tap at Abbey on Miami Beach. Like Pinesol and grain alcohol. One of the best!

2006 bottle sampled as a bonus beer at the Avery tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits. Thanks to Dave for bringing this one to share. Opaque amber pour with a medium tan head. Caramel malt aroma with cascade hops. Sugary malt flavor up front with caramel, wood, alcohol and an earthy hop finish.

Lots of hops. There’s almost enough malt to balance. Medium body with a little creamy texture. It finishes with a slight grapefruit bitterness.
