Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

12 oz bottle courtesy of, and thanks to, the venerable HogtownHarry. Decants a murky copper with some red hues showing in the light. Thin and dusty white foam. The nose is of caramel and figs with a huge malt component with aggressive hops. It’s also quite doughy with a rye bread component. This barley wine shows sweet caramel upfront with fruit flavours of fig and plum. The hops are also pretty intense. They seem fresh and pungent, which is great, because I prefer this in a barley wine. Doughy and bready throughout. The finish is chalky, astringent, and dry with just a bit of malt sweetness coming through. Quite nice. I’ve wanted this for a while, so much thanks goes out to HogtownHarry for providing this. I appreciate it Harry. Thank you. Overall, I find Barley wines to be way to aggressive but this one is balanced enough that I like it quite a lot.

oh barley wine, how many ridiculous things have i done because of you? you’re complex and beautiful but you like to toss me to the curb. and i’d like to do the same withthe bigfoot. pours thick and murky with a heavy handed taste of alcohol, not the balance i want from you. you have to be subtle and delicate before you knock me out. bigfoot doesnt.

got a 6er of the 2008 bottles on a whim, was going to buy a single at a-b-c, glad i went with the 6er. tastes sort of like sweetwater’s happy ending seasonal they brew in mid-end december. definatly taste the hops, going to let it get a little colder then go for another.

Ripe fig shade with light head. Very sweet fruity aroma. Velvety smooth intro that immediately becomes sweet, malty and carbonated in the mouth, then very sweet and warming in the finish. Bittersweet chocolate first then grapefruity in the aftertaste. My first barleywine - I need to find more.

Bottle, thanks to Strykzone. Super dark red pour with a very nice head. Aromsas of malt hit you immediately. Quickly those aromas give way to some pretty damn strong hops. This is just too hoppy for me. But it is brewed well.

had bottled and on draft, both ways pour a great red color with a nice white but not long lasting head that gives a nice balance of hops and malt. not as sweet as some barley wine which allow a great hop bitterness that leaves u wanting more.

Nice thick creamy lasting head on this muddy red-looking barleywine. Floral hoppy aroma with notes of dark fruits. Very filling palate with a nice balance of strong hops with tons of malt. Best barleywine I’ve had to date.
