Commercial Description:
Gold Medal Winner, Great American Beer Festival (Ales: Brown, Bitter and Pale 1987, Barleywine 1988,1992,1995). Sierra Nevada Bigfoot is an award winning example of the English Barley Wine style. It boasts a dense, fruity bouquet; an extremely rich, intense, bittersweet palate; and a deep, reddish-brown color. This ale is superbly balanced between an almost overpowering maltiness and a wonderfully bittersweet hoppiness.

This is one of my favorite barley wines that I try to have every year. It’s definitively American with noticeable hops, but still full of dark fruits and complexity that is quite delicious!

Chilled but not cold in a large snifter. 12oz bottle warmed for about 10min before drinking. Nose started with mild fruity hop and then moved to IPA like hop aroma after the ale armed. There was also a rich malty aroma that hinted of the sweetness to come. Mouth feel is creamy but not dense and allowed the ale to coat the mouth and linger for several seconds. Initially I was hit with intense malty sweetness and caramel tones which quickly gave way to a near chocolate tail before the bitter hop finish. Its one of the widest flavor profiles from sweet to bitter I have experienced and its absolutely wonderful. Simply put, this is a fantastic beer. Much better balance and texture than the Victory Old Horizontal. Dont drink many barley wines but I’ll be drinking this one again for sure.

2009 brewing: Slightly cloudy ruby-amber with a large tan head. Sweet, carmelly aroma. felt slightly thick on the tongue. Has a nutty sweet flavor up front with a surprisingly strong hops bloom at the back. alcohol is well-hidden. Very good.

12 oz bottle froma trade with scrizzz. pours clear mahogany with a tan head that stay forever. hoppy nose with supporting caramel malts. the flavour start malty with caramel and vanilla, but then a huge hop finish comes in. as hoppy as and IIPA but with a bigger malt profile. a great example of an american barley wine.

Sampled at the 8th Annual Music City Brewer’s Festival. Amber brown in color. Nose is of pine, resin, hops, malty malt, and syrup. Racy beer. Flavors are rich, bitter, slightly woody, and metallic. I didn’t think the beer had any alcohol balance. This might be the worst tasting Bigfoot that I’ve ever had. Will try again... This beer has been too good in the past to leave it with this low score.

It poured a clear dark amber liquid with a medium sized foam that left a nice lacing. It had a very strong smell that I could sense even as I was pouring it. Spicey, with sweet caramell, yeast, malt, hops, citrus and some alcoholic warmth. A very thick aroma. The first thing I noticed was a very high bitterness and a thick body. It also had some malt. sweet caramell and hops. The alcohol was well hidden and is only revieled by the warmth that spreads in my mouth afterwards. Also leaves a very dry tingly sensation in my mouth. I really enjoyed the high bitterness, a very nice beer.

Deep dark amber colour with a small sticky off-white head. Perfumey, hoppy and malty aroma. Flavour starts sweet but burning with nice rich malt notes and ends extremely bitter, burning and powerfull with a perfumey hop bite. Body is medium with rather sharp carbonation, alcohol is very well hidden.

A bottle 0.35L from Alko shop. Hoppy nose. Pale beige head. Slightly hazy amber coloured. Strong hoppy taste. Sweet but bitter. Well hidden alcohol!
