It has lots of hoppiness with the dark chocolate nutty taste of something like a stout. A very dark cola brown with a hint of redness. Pretty good, but not for those who don’t like their beer as dark and heavy as it gets.

09 bottle, about 10-11 months old by now. Nice rich dark amber, lightly hazy, with a pretty tan head that stays to the very end. Floral, citrusy hops still strong on the aroma, but I get some caramel malt alongside. Rich malt flavor, a little hot, and still a very nice hop presence. Really good at this age. Alcohol is lightly present, which works well, and there’s a nice smooth palate. A pleasure to drink - again and again, the Sierra Nevada brewers prove they know what they’re doing. TET (238), Finland
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Slightly red, copper brown beer with medium beige head. Aroma is exhilarating, strong tropical fruits, pine needles and sweet malts. Flavour is strongly hoppy, malty and bitter in the end and aftertaste is long. Slippery and nice to drink. This beer based on great hops, and that is impressed, but if there would be more freshness, would it be better, maybe or not... leems (149), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 2, 2009 The beer store I frequent has had a six pack with one missing of big foot on top of one of their fridges for quite a while. I finally talked them into pulling it down and it was the 2007 vintage! Yum! This is a beautiful beer, not as dark as most barley wines one sees now days. This is a shining example that is not overly sweet, well developed, deep complex flavors. A real winner, I wish I had one fresh so I could compare, it was probably good but I bet not this good. When I first strated drinking this I was reminded of a big IPA, but sweeter. The brew is very smooth and complicated, and considering the high ABV, this is very drinkable. This in my opinion was what the DIPA are trying to be, but then again this is a barley-wine so maybe i’m off. Good stuff, must have from one of our great California breweries. armando629 (986), Budapest, Hungary

Deep amber- mahagony reddish colored, clear poured beer. Very intensive and rich aroma with a leader character of the american hops. Tons of malt, caramel, spicies like vanilla and clove. Thick body, oily texture with a hop blast, fine fruity malt and caramel, some lurky nuts in the flavor. Powerful citrussy-resiny hop, spicies like clove and vanilla in the aftertaste. Complex ale! coldmeat23 (233), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA

Pours a clear brown with a ruby overcast. Two-finger head of fluffy light tan foam. Retention is great. Lacing is big sticky clumps.
Bitter hops hit me first. Hints of citrus. Slight promise of caramel malts. Mild yeasty presence.
It almost, for a brief second, seemed like this was going to be a big, smooth maltbomb. Then the hops came in. The brief kiss of caramel is annihilated by the bitterness of the hops.
Slight hints of dark fruits, but they are covered in pine sap.
Bigfoot is just about the hoppiest barleywine that I know of.
Very appealing smooth and creamy body.
For me, this is way over hoppy, right now. I can’t wait to taste it in two to three years, though.

Big aroma.Syrupy mouthfeel with light carbonation. NW hops flavor, like a big American DIPA. Citrusy and prickly piney. Quite good, but I personally prefer the malt forward barleywines, so would choose Old Foghorn instead. tangent (12), San Pedro, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 22, 2009 I bought a 2008 6 pack of this at local liquor store.
Pours a deep hazy amber brown color with a large white head that dissipates rather quickly.
The nose is super hoppy and definitely a strong alcohol smell to it.
Sweet rich malt flavor with dark fruit flavors maybe plum followed by a long somewhat dry finish.
This beer has tons of hop flavors for a barleywine, but overall a complex well balanced body and seems it would do even better with a few more years.
