The flavor has the bitterness I was expecting from a Sierra Nevada but in a brown ale it did not seem to fit. It did have toasted malt, chocolate and nuts as well, and they seem to fit nicely. The palate is thin. I liked this one but it was not that impressive. DCJack (146), Alabama, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 12, 2006 Bottle: It pours a clear brown with an off white fluffy head. Aroma has a nice malt characteristic, caramel, a light chocolate note, decent hops, and a sort of woodsy aroma to it. I can taste some hops, nicely malted, caramel again, chocolate, and it got a really subtle Sierra Nevada twang just like the Pale Ale. Yet this is really subdued and not overpowering. Palate is a little fizzy, bitter on the back end, and kind of sticky, Overall, It’s a decent brown ale. Sierra Nevada has much better products than this, but it’s not horrible. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 11, 2006 Call me crazy, but when I hear about a new Sierra Nevada product I get a little excited. It’s not that I suspect that it will be the best beer in the world, I just figure it will be solid. This one is not solid. It’s thin and watery with just a bit of nuttiness and an unpleasantly off-tasting finish. I feel like I’m being a little generous with this score. BuckNaked (1211), Tempe, Arizona, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Bottle: Pours to a clear brown colored body with a medium sized, light tan colored head that lasts. The aroma is browned toast, very light roasted malt, and mild nuts. Taste is bitter roasted nuts, bitter roasted malt, a bit of burnt toast, and some hops hidden in the background. Light-medium bodied, medium carbonated. framebender (56), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 10, 2006 What I expected from Sierra Nevada. Solid brown ale with sweet taste but nothing spectacular. Very thin on hops, which I would expect for style. maniac (2773), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Thich frothy tan head over a ruby-brown body. A nutty, malty and roasted grain aroma. Sweet fruity taste, roasted hops, some nuts. Nothing to outstanding but not bad.
