Commercial Description:
A traditional brown ale brewed using the renowned British aromatic hop East Kent Golding. Medium bodied with nice malt character. This is a dark and flavorful ale.

Pretty disappointing for a sierra nevada brew. Has a bit of a stale, dusty, aroma. Not sure if its the brew or if its been on bevmo’s shelves too long. My girlfriend says it tastes like wet socks. Won’t be purchasing this again...

Bottle: Aroma has lots of chocolate, caramel, and moderate nuttiness. Pours a transparent orangish-brown with a moderate off-white head that lasts a minute or so. Lots of chocolate and caramel up front. Moderate nutty backbone with some hints of coffee. Moderate roasty and piney bitterness in the finish. Not a brown ale fan, but this is respectable and is probably very good for those that are fans of the style.

A good Brown Ale. Nice deep brown color. Good carmel, nut, chocolate flavor but I expected a little more in the way of body. Nice head forms when poured but quickly fades.

Another solid beer from Sierra Nevada. Contains that very recognizable Sierra Nevada malt/hops taste, so while it tastes like a brown ale it’s eerily similar to SN’s Pale Ale or Summerfest. That being said, the rest of it is good, but not great for a brown ale. It finishes a little dirty for my liking, and could be a lot smoother. Nutty flavor is almost masked by overt malt lingering flavor. Would possibly buy again, but why buy this when I could be enjoying a SN Pale Ale instead!

From a 2006 edition bottle. A new arrival in Iowa City. The copper and brown body was fairly pretty. The long lasting head is light yellow. The aroma has caramel and a hint of chocalte. There is also a hint of fall leaves. This smells more interesting than most brown ales. The taste actually has some character. There are notes of tea and coffee. There is also a hint of fall leaves. The finish is a little dry and bitter for my taste. The body is plenty carbonated. A solid brown ale.

Bready, nutty and slightly sour aroma; malty front end with a slightlty roasty and ashy edge; fairly astringent and spicey, bitter finish; a bit on the harsh side for a simple brown.

Crystal clear solid brown with an appealing, slightly rocky, tan head. Nutty caramel malt and lightly spicy hop aroma with a hint of chocolate. Very sweet and yet a little thin in body. Rather lacking in flavor. The finishing bitterness is rough and out of whack. I was expecting better...

Deep malty aroma. Dark amber color with a frothy tan head. Some lacing. Starts with the flavor of sweet malt, followed by a burst of pure sweetness (but not syrupy or cloying), ending with some hoppy bitterness. WIth the passing swallows the bitterness becomes more predominant. Not like anything I’ve tried before. Very good. Seems to have the approximate smoothness of an English brown with some of the rusticity of most American browns. In the end the persisting hops definitely make it worth a repeat.
