| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Bottle Clear dark amber brown with a puffy tan head and sticky lacing. The aroma is bourbon barrel, brown sugar, alcohol, and caramel. It has a bitter, astringent initial flavor to it, but then it is followed by some sweetness. The body is thin and it leaves a dry feel. Aroma is mild woody malt. Flavor is a bit bitter and astringent with the usual woody, malt flavors as well. Hopped a bit more than Im use to for the style. Finishes a bit thin and dry.

As a fan of Sierra Nevada, I was stoked to see that their Brown Ale has made it to Jacksonville, and it is in 6 packs no less. Brown ale was my passion before developing my buds on IPA. Pours a cola like brown with a fading white head. Taste is a bit different from the usual brown ales. Not over powering with chocolate or nuts, but just right. Kudos to Sierra Nevada. desurfer (1068), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 25, 2006 Pours a dark brown/amber with little head formation. Aroma is slightly sour with bready malts. Flavor is subdued with a delicate balance between doughy sweetness and mellow British hoppiness. Finish is sweet and lingering. Good beer but nothing special. BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2006 Deep roasted aroma. Toasted malt, some chocolate and nutty flavors, semi sweet with a dry hop finish. I enjoyed this one. irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 24, 2006 pours a very pretty, coca-cola-ish brown, with definate deep red notes, and a tan head that retains well and leaves good lace. chocolatey nose with a nice herbal overlay. perhaps a bit of toffee. not overly pungent, but nice. very pleasing beer starts with a dry chocolate flavor, picks up a bit of caramelly sweetness, then finishes with a nice balanced wash of hop flavor and bitterness. another very nice english-style ale, following the IPA, from a brewery much better known for their distinctly American-style ales. Joe Bob says 2 thumbs up!
note - this seems quite different from the tap version I had last year, that seemed both hoppier and sweeter.
