Traditional and straightforward approach to a brown ale. Emphasis on the nutty characteristics of roasted malts. Nicely hopped to balance the sweet, nutty roasted malt flavors with a medium bittering. Pretty drinkable.

Sierra Nevada Brown Ale is a classic example a traditional brown ale from the UK. This is a fantastic example of brown ale with wonderful hop aromatics, bitterness, and a soft, sweet malty, slightly nutty palate. SN Brown Ale pours to a beautiful deep brown color with a creamy tan head, and a soft to moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is wonderful, with good flowery hop aroma, paired with some sweet and nutty malt aroma. The palate is soft with flavors of sweet malt, nuts, a nice back ground of ripe fruit flavors, and a touch of hop flavor. SN Brown finishes with more malty/nutty flavors up front, then ends with a dry, zesty, hop bite that lingers on the tongue.

On Tap. Brown color with a medium white head. Toasted malt aroma with a mildly sweet fancy coffee drink flavor.

Sampled from draught at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2005.
Tall fluffy off-white head, dark brown body. Mild but well balanced aroma of malt with a bit of chocolate and a dusty tone. Thin malt and brown sugar flavor, sweet and easy drinkable and a bit too inoffensive.

(draft @ MacGregor’s - Henrietta, NY) Clear brown color with a thin tan head and nice lacing. Very light and sweet malty aroma. Not much there however. Clean and slightly nutty taste. Very light on the palate and leaves the slightest of sweet aftertastes. Could use more flavor and body.

Draught...poured medium brown with little head. Nut/Toast aroma. Minimal mouthfeel. Coffee and chocolate flavors are barely noticeable. Middle of the road brown ale.
