2006 Bottle: Pours a deep mahogany color with a medium off-white head that has decent retention. Stringy lacing. The aroma is hoppy and nutty. Medium-bodied with a straightforward flavor of nuts, hops and malt. The finish is moderately bitter and short. This beer is like the majority produced by Sierra Nevada, well-made if not earth-shattering in any way.

On Tap on Red’s Old 95 Grill in Carson City. A very dark brown ale with a short-lasting off-white head. Like most Sierra Nevada brews, it’s very heavy on hops. I expect a touch of sweetness with a brown ale, and there was very little here. Very dry, not overpower or complex. A decent beer, but for a brown ale ... meh.

Dark brown with a white head, not by any means a good looking beer. There was an unexpected lemony aroma, not unlike the detergent I use to wash dishes. Taste gave brief hints of chocolate and even a little sourness, but all was overwhelmed by the sharp hoppiness of the finish.

Enjoyable ale. Nice deep dark color. Hops are evident but less than SN pale ale. Has malt and hints of chocolate and is not heavy. Very drinkable, good ale.

Brown with no head off the tap. Aroma is malty. Taste of a slightly darker than caramel malt with some background hops that compliment the flavor. Refreshing and smooth.

Bottle: Deep mahogany, large fluffy white head, very nice lacing.   Looks great!   Soft combination of roasted and chocolate malts on the nose.   Flavor is similar, very soft chocolate and roasted malts, slight dry/chalky bitterness, a touch of campfire, with an even softer hop bitterness in the background.   Well balanced, not light, but certainly a little a thin on the backside.   Wished it to be a bit more chewy, but still decent.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Lingering dry/chalky chocolate malt finish.   Overall its fairly good, just needs a bit more umph I think.
