nice beer, brown appearance. I thought it had a bit of a sweet taste, spiced a bit, good body.

Draught at Mr. Goodbar, Buffalo, NY. Pours a dark amber with a small tan head. Aroma of yeast, some sourness, roasted malt, chocolate and spices. Odd flavour of Saison yeast, citrus and spices along with lightly roasted malt, chocolate and some sourness. Alcoholic and an overly bitter finish. To me it’s an interesting idea but a failure in the end -- I wouldn’t drink it again.

Tap at Three Floyds awhile back: Brillant reddish brown hue with a frothy head and spotty lace. The aroma has notes of light spices, apple and plum, toasted and caramel malts, earthy yeast esters and a grassy hop vapour. The taste has a nice spicy versus malt interplay, quite balanced with some light bitterness and acidity to back it up. There was a very faint salty note that actually work well with the other flavors. This beer was surprisingly refreshing, lively and crisp, hit the spot. Well done and exceeded my expections.

Appearance: Dark amber, small white head. Aroma: Cornflakes, some sourness, lemon and yeast. Flavour: Caramel, bitter, lemons, long dirty sweet flavour with a lasting thick mouthfeel. Odd.

Pours red/brown with a tan head. The aroma is sweet, yeasty and spicy. The flavor is sweet fruit like apple and pear with some spices. It actually reminds me a lot of spiced apple cider. A little syrupy, with a mildly bitter finish.

Had it on tap at the Pony Bar in NYC. Pretty good beer. Pours a dark brown with a medium head. Nose of yeast and roasted malts. Flavor is interesting: a plethora of fruity notes atop a malty foundation. Slightly sour. Finishes crisp and clean.

Draft @ Village Beer Merchant. As a fan of the saison style, I wasn’t impressed with this strange hybrid. It’s like a sour dark hefeweizen with lots of roasty brown ale-type notes, and lots of spice/banana/wheat-yeast characteristics. If it was labeled something other than saison, my brain might stop trying to make sense out of it and therefore enjoy it more. Ehhhhh....

On tap at Rohrbach’s. Dark brown with orange highlights, nice head. Toffee, butterscotch, some sour yeasty notes, I also noted the banana/clove hefe notes, fine by me, as I’m not real sure what the saison style is anyway. Sour palate, complex stuff, nice mouthfeel.
