ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Dec 23, 2008 Draft at Toronado. Aroma is the usual grapefruit and citrus, but also has a strawberry fruitiness to it. Medium bodied, moderate bitterness. Stood out in the mix. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Oct 26, 2008 Cask in the rake. Alround rating: As soon as i saw this SN Chico American style pale ale 7%, i wAS LIKE YASSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Its typically sierra nevada bursting with hops, very lychee, citrus, bitter, orange peel, all amazing. Such a great beer and i cant beleive i got the chance to try it randomly walking through london with my mum! marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 4, 2008 On tap at Toronado. This dark amber beer poured with a nice off-white head and a floral aroma. There is a tasty caramel malt base with a seriously hopped bitterness that goes well with the malt. Nicely carbonated and well-crafted. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 22, 2008 Interesting bitter beer enjoyed on-tap at Buckeye Beer Engine. Orange with lace plus. Aggressively hopped. Just tapped, high carbonation. Real West Coast. BrotherGrendel (545), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 On draft at O’Brien’s.
Appearance is slightly murky orange hue, thine white foam mostly dissipates, spotty lacing on the glass.
Smell is dominated by tones of grass, earth, and floral hops (100% Cascade), background of lemon citrus and boozy alcohol, tones of lighter fruits (apples, pears) lingers, hints of light malt.
Taste is characterized by lemony hops and light sweet fruits, sweet biscuit malts in the middle, finishes sweet and dry.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, creamy smooth texture, moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is moderate, hops are more on the subtle side and the lemon and fruit sweetness overpower some of the bitterness, bordering on more of an IPA (I think O’Brien’s even had it listed as an IPA), overall decent pale ale with a twist. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA May 13, 2008 On draft from SDBrewCo during CBC. This was listed as a DIPA, and stylistically seemed to fit the category. Arrived a clear orange amber color with a small, creamy white head. Nice crisp hop aroma, with lots of citrus and florals, summer fruits and hints of pine. Puckering hop profile, more citrus and pine, Sierra Nevada house yeast character and some toasty malts. Medium body, tingly carbonation. Enjoyable. nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Apr 28, 2008 On tap at PP Solana and this was labeled Double IPA. Had to try it! Clear golden amber with thin white head. Fair citrusy hoppy aroma. Very nice smooth syrupy mouthfeel. Upfront hoppy bittterness and citrus backbone. Pleasant finish. Good but not off the charts in flavor profile! Doctormirk (100), USA Feb 10, 2007 On tap at the brewery. This beer was a pleasant surprise. A bit like a beefed up version of the Sierra Nevada Pale ale. Reddish amber hue with a foamy head. A well developed focus on hop flavor with bitter citrus flavors. Good carbonation. Lemon scent and taste. Not as "spicy" as some American Strong Ales-this one leans more in the direction of a well balanced IPA. Glad to see the Pale Ale has been making it to the gym.
