Commercial Description:
Double DEBOCKel is brewed in the style of the traditional German doppelbock but with our original Sierra Nevada spin. At the start, our Double DeBOCKel is roasty and malty; it has a rich caramel character, a light bready flavor and mild, pleasant sweetness. It has silky-smoothness resulting from along aging period at near freezing temperatures, and hides its hearty strength with modesty. Double De BOCKel is a boisterous beer that finishes clean; and in true Sierra Nevada fashion the use of a healthy dose of hops leaves the beer surprisingly dry, with nothing but a full-body warmth and a faint malty memory left behind

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Copper color with a thin tan head. Aroma is rather hoppy with hints of sweet malts and some citrus. Flavor is very bitter with a very light touch of sweetness that disappears. Too bitter for my taste and for a doppelbock.

Draft at Brewgrass. Pours a clear light copper color with a thin head. Aroma is citrus with spice. Decent clean taste, very refreshing. My first beer at Brewgrass. No way it was 9.4%, maybee 4.9

draft at papago... pours a clear brownish copper. it’s topped by an off white head which leaves behind pillowy rings of lace. smells really hoppy... pnw, grapefruit, pine, caramel, golden raisins and a spicy burn. most of the flavor... cooked cream, raisin-y fruitiness, caramel-y maltiness, honey, florals and citrus pith is hidden behind a curtain of hops. spicy/peppery dry finish with a boozy note coming in as it warms. medium body, spicy dry mouth feel. call me crazy..() this is an ipa gone wrong? i like pushing boundaries but this shows very little style characters to begin with. although, not a bad beer... just confused.

Tap at The Front Door Boise, Pours out a amber topped with a small head. Aroma of sweet fruit and light yeast. Tast of more sweetness and hops. So So

Draft at Brouwers.

Fruity aroma, rotten peaches. Hot, thick, sticky, and metallic, what’s to like about this alcohol syrup? I’m surprised to see such a dog coming from Sierra Nevada.

Draft at Brewgrass. Deep amber/brown pour. Yellowish off-white bubbly head. Well, they called it, I guess, with the name. Perhaps that’s a bit harsh; this wasn’t quite a debacle, but it wasn’t my cup of tea (or my pint of beer). Very very sweet and too hoppy (not to mention the alcohol), which made for a combination that was too harsh for me. I expect some deep malt in a doppelbock, and my palate was fighting too hard against the other flavors and gave up. A disappointing beer from SN.

Clear brown, thin beige head. Smells like toast, and maybe a hint if chocolate, I guess. Flavor is, well a little on the bland side, with some smooth malts and a subtle hop bite at the end.

pint @ Thirsty Monk. Good aroma, sweet. Nutty, honey, little fruity. Clean brownish orange color, good head & lace. Bitter sweet flavor, malty. Caramel, nutty, little meaty. Tad harsh. Thin body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. eh, didn’t inspire me, aroma was the best part.
