Commercial Description:
Our ESB blends the best of English tradition with the boldness of West Coast style. A blend of malts featuring British-grown Maris Otter is balanced with the earthy spiciness of hand-selected English and US hops. The ale is left unfiltered which enhances mouthfeel and hop aroma creating a slightly reddish copper hue.

Very nice look to this, light orange, hazy, thick head, full lacing. Nice toffee and grapefruit aroma, a bit unusual. The palate is caramel, resiny, hoppy, and gets more hoppy as you go. Not great balance and while it starts out seemingly English-style the more you taste it the more American it seems with the hoppiness.

On tap at the flying saucer this beer was poured into a standard pint glass. This beer poured orange with a short lasting head. There are smells of citrus and caramel. The taste is a lot like the smell. The first sip has a subtle citrus hop presence and then it finishes with a nice caramel taste. This beer is a very nice surprise.

12 oz bottle poured into snifter. A light pale orange with a decent head that fades into a very smooth and clean taste. Nothing special.

Pours orange with a rising head. Aroma is vague, though mostly of hops. Flavor is initially that of a typical IPA, or more closely, Sierra’s pale ale, though the overall experience is a lot smoother ultimately; This seems to be just a smoother, more mature variation of their famous pale ale. Overall, good.

Nice light maltiness with a perfect balance of fresh, citrus hop aroma. Do yourself a favor. Let the bottle sit for an hour and smell it. Wonderful.

Bottle from 2009. Pours a copper/amber color with a nice and fluffy tan head that leaves rings of lace. Very subtle aroma of caramel and biscuits with some citrusy qualities in the background. Medium-bodied. Tastes like it smells - very good balance. Biscuitiness and light caramel sweetness upfront followed by a grassy hoppiness. Herbal hints at the end. Fairly dry finish. A solid beer.

2009 version. Pours a beautiful semi-cloudy copper color with a thick, dense, white head that falls down to a thick film on top. Carbonation is low with the aroma having a strong Maris presence with an early and citrus hop aroma just as prevalent. Flavor begins with a nice citrus hops note melded with some grassy/herbal hops flavors, slight sweet fruitiness in the middle and finishes with a solid caramel and light toffee malt presence. Overall an enjoyable beer for the spring/early summer months with it not being too heavy but with a full, well rounded flavor.

Light amber with good, creamy beige head / Bread and dry hop nose / Light, creamy body, with good balance and bitter finish / Mild flavors of bread, brown sugar, and dry hops / Well made, if unexceptional.
