I felt like it was too much like SN’s pale ale, so I would have liked it to have more separation there. Wouldnt go out of my way to have it again. Nice dark color, clear on the pour. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 27, 2008 Cloudy orange with a lasting off-white head. Citrus hops with a hint of peach. Fruity sweet flavour, with a lot of malt. Hoppy finish. Compared to the pale ale, this is maltier, and does indeed blend English tradition with classic SN qualities. ante (2976), Stockholm, Sweden

Pours out in a hazy amber colour with hints of copper with a rich fluffy off-white foam. Dryish aroma of orange-peels, earth, mild flowers and toasted malts. Medium-bodied with dry flavours of nut-shells, orange-peels, earth, crackers and grass. Almost no residual sugars left here. Dryish, crisp medium-bitter finish of orange-peels, earth, nuts and grass. thewolf (5838), Kolding, Denmark

Pours dark golden with a medium, frothy, lightly off-white head. Aroma has biscuits, soft flowery hops. A bit light mouthfeel. Flavour is good, dry, hoppy with a good malty base. Nice. SledgeJr (3004), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Updated: Apr 28, 2009In the bottle from Beertopia. Amber gold in color with a heavily carbonated off white head. Slightly milder than the typical SN hop pop, but still has just too much citrus grapefruit bitterness for the style in my book. I like the fruity splash to it though. UPDATE 2009 version: very hazy dark gold with orange tones. Big white head. This has a very pleasant load of citrus hops, but not what I’d expect from an ESB. tasty beer though. Papsoe (15180), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Fresh English aroma hops in the nose. Medium body, some nutty accents and caramel with a fairly bitter finish. Actually I find it rather close to a genuine British ESB. 140408 hockey28 (12), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 24, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy light copper color with a dense pillowy offwhite head that sticks around for a while and diminshes with considerable lacing. Aroma is principally citrusy and bitter hops, littlle malt detectable. Taste is pretty much one-dimensional. The hops really overpower the malt in my opinion. The acidic and bitter hops hit you up front and finishes with a more fruity (grapefruit) but still bitter finish. The malt is there but only as a weak backbone. Relatively light bodied beer and the mouthfeel is pretty nice. A nice drinkable spring beer.
