Commercial Description:
Our ESB blends the best of English tradition with the boldness of West Coast style. A blend of malts featuring British-grown Maris Otter is balanced with the earthy spiciness of hand-selected English and US hops. The ale is left unfiltered which enhances mouthfeel and hop aroma creating a slightly reddish copper hue.

Well, pours a clear copper color with excellent fluffy off white head with great retention and it laces the glass. Aroma is floral, taste is somewhat simple though, seems light, but nice, semi sweet malt and honey with fresh tasting bitter hops at the end....not bad at all, it actually almost seems like a nice bodied session beer....I like it.

Chill haze orange, creamy white head. Earthy dry citrus and hints of honey dough ride faint touches of pine. Medium bitter earth and citrus flavors balance over lightly sweetened malt. Light to medium bodied, light carbonation, soft bittersweet finish. Easy drinking brew…

Pours a coppery orange with a pillowy ivory head that lasts throughout the drink. The nose is earthy malt grains. The mouthfeel is light but substantial for a bitter with a bit of carbonation. The taste is a spicy bitter that finishes with a nice hop bite to cover the alcohol. Another nice SN beer.

Pours deep amber into a shaker. Fluffy off-white head with good retention leaves no lacing. Mild malt aromas. Upfront caramel and a lasting, pleasant hop finish.

Bottled: Pours a ruddy golden with a white small head. Everything about this is restrained, and although drinkable, really seemed to miss the classic English hop character I associate with the style. I really can’t believe this is unfiltered as it really seemed to have the cardboard component I associate with heavy filtering. Still very drinkable.

3/8/08 - On draft at Ginger Man in Dallas. Pours red with foamy white head, quickly dissipating. Decent lacing. Nose is caramel with slight earthy hops. Flavors of caramel balanced well with earthy, classic hop bitterness. Smooth and delicious.

Some trouble making heads or tails of this. Odd that its a touch better when cooler than "cellar temp". Aroma is restrained, features an earthen toffee maris otter aroma but any fermentation characteristic is well hidden, did they use the chico on this? There’s a bit of a grassy spicy hop but its as restrained as the malt. Flavor is balanced, a mild spicy hop intermixed with a lightly chewy breadiness. Finish is semi-sweet with caramels and grassy/peppery hops. Amber-copper color, large foaming head. A fair bit on the boring side but nonetheless tasty and drinkable.
