Commercial Description:
Kellerweis is one of the only American Hefeweizens made using the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation. This difficult and labor-intensive technique adds uncommon depth and flavor complexity. Our hazy-golden hefeweizen is deeply flavorful, refreshing and perfect for a sunny day. To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.

Bottle; poured a murky, dark gold/amber color with a smallish white head. Aroma of wheat, banana, and spice; slightly sweet and nice. The palate was very nice; smooth and creamy. The flavor was solid, but not great for me; and the after taste was not very good. Sweet wheat, with a bit of banana and spice. Didn’t live up to the hype for me.

Pours out a cloudy gold with lots of foam. Taste is creamy, yeasty and some spice. Flavors of citrus, bannana, corriander, clove and bread. Good summer brew.

From a bottle into a pilsner glass. Pours with a ton of head. Creamy white/gold color. Be sure to get all the yeast from the bottom of the bottle! Aroma was of yeast, orange and dough. Taste was very yeasty, almost like a Belgian but not really... and with banana. No alcohol taste present whatsoever. Mouthfeel was extremely creamy. I really liked this beer. It was extremely complex with a cream-like consistency. ONe of the best hefe’s I’ve tasted period!

Hazy dark gold color with a thin white head that lasts for a while. Aroma is big pungent citrus and some spice. Flavor is a touch sweet and pretty well carbonated. Get a nice cinnamon and clove flavor in back of a lemony tang. This has a bit more character than a mass market hefe but is still very drinkable and interesting enough to keep you satisfied. Not so much so that it will make you slap your mother though. Going down great after my weekend in the yard playing with rocks.

Bottle into weizen. Pours a hazy gold with a two finger, white, fluffy head that has good retention and leaves spotty lacing. Aroma of lemon zest, yeast, cloves, unripe bananas, but less pronounced than other hefeweizens. Flavor is sort of sour apricot, unripe bananas, slight nutmeg, yeast, malted wheat. Creamy on the palate. A little watery and cardboardy compared to Weihenstephaner or Ayinger versions. Not bad but in no way the groundbreaking American hefeweizen comeback. Fairly basic and lackluster.

I was disappointed. This was a pretty straight forward mass market hefe, not nearly as complex or as interesting as the best American or German versions. Cloudy pale gold to pale amber, big white head. Nose of wheat, yeast, lemon and banana. Matched in the taste. Opened a Franziskaner for comparison and found it much more interesting.

Bottle sample at the Brevard Beer Fest Definately one of the best hefeweizen out there. It has what you would expect in a hefeweizen with a large head, banana and citrus aroma, fruity and yeast taste with a tough of bitterness in the finish, but Sierra Nevada made every component better and came up with a winner.

best example of a traditional german hefe from a domestic producer imo. giant thick foam head, with aromas of banana/clove/corriander. nice balance & good long clean finish.. nicely done s.nevada
