Commercial Description:
Kellerweis is one of the only American Hefeweizens made using the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation. This difficult and labor-intensive technique adds uncommon depth and flavor complexity. Our hazy-golden hefeweizen is deeply flavorful, refreshing and perfect for a sunny day. To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.

Deep hazy orange tinted golden coloured body with a frothy golden tan head - very nice in appearance! Aroma of pale wheat, yeast, coriander seed, apricots and a hint of juniper berries. Light-bodied; Super mellow wheat flavour with a cool coriander seed freshness, a curacao blast and a little bubble gum on the palate - nice and refined. Aftertaste shows mostly yeast, a bit of bread and a very mellow sweetness. Overall, this beer is very mild, but it works well for the style and the season - middle of summer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 11-June-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 19-July-2009.

Pours a cloudy golden hue with thick billowy white head that sustains well. Nose dominated by banana esters and clove phenols, hints of wheat and sweet fruit. Flavor follows suit, banana and fruit syrup sweetness up front balanced out by milder tones of cloves and grassy hops, finishes sweet. Medium-body with thick creamy texture, moderate carbonation. A complex and flavorful American hefe variant, texture may be a bit to thick and chewy for purists, bit overall delicious!

A solid hefeweizen for sure. Nice banana and clove aroma. Good wheat character. Crisp palate. Heavily sedimented. Perhaps slightly over carbonated, but in general a very enjoyable beer. And, for the price you can’t beat it.

Stop in to a Sunoco to get a pack of gum and you find this little gem on a shelf.....never seen it anywhere else. A really delicious Hefe from Sierra Nevada who I am continually impressed with, turning out large amounts of quality beer. Sweet, with subtle bananna, well balanced and spicey. Light-medium carbonation. If you find it pick up a six pack....you won’t be disappointed.

Nice cloudy light yellow color. Smells of malts and yeast with a hint of lemon. Taste is of sweeter malts with a little citrus. Has hardly any aftertaste. A pretty good brew, especially coming from a brewery that loves to use hops.

Wonderfully cloudy, straw yellow with a dense, rocky, white cap of foam. Great foam retention. Aroma is yeasty, bready, slight cloviness with a touch of lemon and banana. The flavor is citrus and clove with a sufficient amount of carbonation without being abrasive. Light on the tongue. Quite a refreshing and well designed hefe. I’m not catching the "uncommon depth and flavor complexity" though.

I picked this up at the Binny’s in Orland Park, Illinois. This is right up dm9831’s alley, and I must present him with some. It pours a hazy yellow body with a tall white head and leaves much lacing in its wake. The aroma is yeasty and bready and has loads of fresh bananas with some wheaty tartness. Very spritzy mouthfeel. The flavor is wheaty with fresh bananas, bubblegum, a dash of clove, and a touch of lemony tartness. Very well executed example of the style.
