Commercial Description:
Kellerweis is one of the only American Hefeweizens made using the traditional Bavarian style of open fermentation. This difficult and labor-intensive technique adds uncommon depth and flavor complexity. Our hazy-golden hefeweizen is deeply flavorful, refreshing and perfect for a sunny day. To serve, pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest.

Impressive traditional hefeveizen - strong wheat malt character. Strong yeast notes of banana and tart pear. Clove and grass.

Staggeringly high marks for a bright beer like this. I was really pleased with the mellow but complex qualities. Will be interesting to see if this rating holds up. Nose has that great opening of Cable Car. Color is perfectly bright but also evenly hazed for a great golden color. Flavor is almost tart up top, then into light grain, wheat, and the first part of that banana flavor that Hef is known for. But this one doesn’t turn artificial because it is swiftly reigned in by nice even malt: the whole thing creates a nice sweet semi-grain bread effect that I find not only sessionable but enjoyable again and again.

Location: Not sure where it was purchased, 7/6/09

Aroma: Clove, yeast, banana, wheat, bubblegum
Appearance: Hazy banana yellow, foamy white mead, lots of lacing on the glass
Flavor: Nice flavor, typical of the German wheat style, nice mix of spice and sweetness
Palate: Relatively easy drinking beer, decent mouthfeel, nice example of the style
Overall Impression: A pretty nice American attempt at the German Hefe.

12oz bottle 7/6/09 (Binny’s Naperville)-Pours a hazy cloudy orangish yellow with a big tight white head. Aroma of banana, clove, and yeast. Taste of the same with all of the flavors being very pronounced. This medium bodied brew is a very good American Hefe. Great job.

Bottle thanks to Butters. Hazy golden orange color with a thick frothy white foam. Aroma is big spiciness, yeasty, dry malt, some banana and bubblegum. Taste is much nicer, clearer banana, citrus, bubblegum, balancing yeasty clove spicing.

This is a cloudy straw-colored beer with a moderate white head and a banana aroma. This is a very refreshing wheat beer that is slightly carbonated and slightly sour, with a flavor of peach, cloves and banana.

I wasn’t impressed with this one. Pours standard color with fluffy white head. Aroma of cloves and banana. Taste is first of hops, followed by a smooth finish. Seems to lack the bite and complexity of other Hefes. Maybe, I’m just not thrilled with the American style.
