Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a delightful example of the classic pale ale style. It has a deep amber color and a exceptionally full-bodied, complex character. The fragrant bouquet and spicy flavor are the results of the generous use of the best Cascade hops.<P> Bottle Conditioned.

This was ’the one’ for me - I’ve been drinking craft or pseudo-craft beer for a long time, Fat Tire and assorted CO micros opened my eyes after moving to Denver 14 years ago. Then, my first GABF in 1996 really popped things, but not to the point of extremity (until a fateful email exchange with theisti a couple years ago). During a lot of that time, SNPA was my standard. I’d go through more than a case a month, only occasionally grabbing something different (German Hefes in the summer, the random IPA to mix things up, etc). Finally went back and got another 6. Pours beautiful golden ambber with a fluffy head that dissipates slowly into oily swirls. Nose isn’t overwhelmingly good, but solid floral and citric hops with a slight maltiness. Flavor is what I measure other APAs against - Citric hops are the star, but there’s a really nice caramelly background that gives it a nice pleasant mouthfilling feel. Hops kick back @ the end and finish it crisp and dry, with no lingering sweetness. Wonderful APA.

Bought a six pack of this, nursed it through the week of Christmas, 2009. Nobody that I offered some to liked it, calling it too bitter. Huh... Odd that they’d say that... in my opinion, it’s not as bitter as some IPA’s. Very hoppy, mildly citrusy, mildly piney, but only mildly bitter. Pours a dark amber, light light brown head. Medium carbonation. Aftertaste is more bitter than while it’s in mouth. Refreshing.

Pours cloudy orange with a big frothy off-white head. Aroma- grapefruit, orange rind, and caramel. Taste is bold citrus sweetness but not very bitter. My go to beer at a bar that doesn’t carry much. Good balance of sweet and mild bitter finish. Medium carbonation and medium body.

Description otiose. For years - in this country - this was the mythical non-crap American beer. It must have caused quite a stir. It has not entirely been overtaken by events - it’s notably balanced and non-shouty.

Attractive bronze, some sediment, white head. Hoppy/citrus aroma. Taste is piney hops and caramelly malt. Hops dominate but the sweet malt strikes a good balance. As can be expected from a west coast pale ale... piney and citrus hoppy notes are on the forefront. The style isn’t tops on my list, but one of the best pale ales I’ve had.

Great beer that is readily available. Nice crisp hoppy pale that has some citrus flavors along with some pine and grass. Fresh earthy profile!

Picked up this American classic from Tesco... Amber color with decent, slightly sticky head and lively carbonation. Citrus hop aroma balanced by biscuity malt. The taste leads with hop bitterness balanced well by a malt backbone following through with an almost sweet hop character. An excellent brew.
