Dark amber color with thick off-white head. not much lacing. Fruity smell. Dry mouthfeel, sweet taste with slight detection of hopps.. Very good!

Jan 26, 2009 Updated: Apr 6, 2009Not good, or even great. Not a drain pour though. The nose is off, a little hoppy and more of a bottle smell than anything else. Very thin body, not much sweet, a little too carbonated. Missing some sort of flavor. Really not a good beer. Doesn’t hold a candle to Bell’s or Smuttynose.
Rerate: Better this time, a bit, but the body is so thin it’s hard to enkoy.

Jan 25, 2009 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown, near black body with a tall, frothy, off-white head.
Smell: Somewhat roasty nose smelling of coffee grinds and notes of unsweetened chocolate earthy hops.
Taste: Predominately roasty and bitter, the beer yields some light hints of pale malts, chocolate malts, and caramel. Almost nil sweetness which quickly fades away, leaving the roast, earthy bitterness to take us to the dry, roasty finish.
Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Just a tad thin, a tad simple, and just not what I’m really looking for in a porter. On to their stout!

Jan 24, 2009 Poured from 12oz bottle. Dark brown body with a thin light head. Gentle aroma that foreshadows smooth beer with a hint of bitterness at the end. A little bit of roasted coffee flavor. A very nice beer.

Jan 19, 2009 12oz bottle. A classic American Porter, I’ve had it dozens of times and hold it in high regard. Thick brown-black color. Foamy dissipating head. Smooth chocolate roasty malts. Sugary and sweet, but balances out well with the minimal hops. A classic.
