Bottle from De Bierkoning. Deep dark brown to black colour, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts and bitter chocolate, cocoa, some sugar. Flavour is roasted malts, a little caramel, bitter chocolate, cocoa, some liquorice. Soft roasted bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Highly drinkable and very enjoyable.

Bottle. Black pour, big off-white cloud-like head, thick lacing. Some raisin in the nose, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruit. Flavor has raisin, dry fruit, bread and caramel. Slight coffee. Roasted finish. Tasty, balanced, roast is well with the sweetness. Drinkable.

12oz bottle from Jans Wine and Boos#2 (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown to black with thick and creamy tan head that settles very slowly and provides ample glass lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, dark ripe fruit, some hints of chocolate and grain. Flavor is cocoa and malt with some subtle honey and caramel notes, hints of dark chocolate and dark ripe fruit. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing malt finish.

Poured dark brown with a hint of ruby. A thin bubbly tan head which disappeared quickly. No noticable aroma. A balance taste, dark, somewhat hoppy, but mixed with a chocolate sweetness. Light feel in the mouth - somewhat bubbly. Maybe too light for a porter, but enjoyable nonetheless.

The noisy pour from the bottle reveals a lightly brown head over a jet black body. Smell of dark roasted grain heading in the direction of chocolate. Pleasing flavour of dark fruits, cocoa and toasted grain. Medium bodied. Likeable [St Andrews, 08.11.2008]

This is very accomplished as Porters go and I was pretty surprised. A full flavor with coffee, dark chocolate only around the edges. Aroma that is merely dark. Its not spectacular at all, but is totally a very good porter, as GodOfThunder puts it.

Nothing really spectacular about this one, it is just a very good porter. Lots of roasted malt and a little smokiness on the finish. Pretty substantial mouthfeel. Nothing new or amazing, but it is a very good porter.

Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate and a bit of fruit in the nose and flavor. Creamy on the palate and clean finish. Quite nice.
