Aroma was predominately of toasted malts with some notes of caramel and the faintest hop aroma. Taste was much the same. The taste of toasted malts were upfront and strong (the dominant flavor) and it finished with some bitter hops and smooth caramel notes. Finish was surprisingly crisp and clean. Palate was surprisingly thin and fizzy. Not the syrupy porters I was used to. This makes it an interesting beer. It has the really nice toasty malt taste but also “finishes clean” (to borrow a Bud Select term) which makes it much more drinkable than some of the heavier porters out there. The flavours are sweet: chocolate, coffee and bit of liquorice finished by a nice bitter feeling. Very nice! golubj (1290), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 18, 2008 Draft at d.b.a. Dark brown pour with a little head. Aroma is roasted / lightly burnt malt (almost smoked) and chocolate malt. Flavor is similar with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and the burnt / roasted malt dominating. Nicely done for a standard porter. jkwalking05 (1485), Arlington, Texas, USA

| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Mar 17, 2008 Not a fan of dark beers, but I read up on Stouts and Porters (couldn’t find a definitive difference bewteen the two) before comparing SN Stout and SN Porter head to head today in honor of St. Pat’s. This is simply no contest. If you like this style, SN Stout is head, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees above this subpar offering in every way. Overcarbonated, watery, and lacking in character and complexity. What more can I say? Very nearly a drain pour. esjaygee (1561), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Mar 16, 2008 12oz bottle. Medium brown with mammoth frothy slowly disappearing head. Roasted malt aroma. It looks like a root beer float! Rich malty taste with a mild bitter aftertaste. Head sticks to the side of the glass in clumps. Not much in terms of flavor variation, a so-so effort.
