Looks the part. Very dark with a huge head on it. Awesome lacing too.
Smells like a super strong cup of coffee. Lots of roasted malts also.
Roasted malt and chocolate, coffee and a touch of hops as well on the taste.
I’m actually surprised at how good this one is. I love SN but wasn’t expecting a whole lot from this one. It isn’t hugely complex or anything but it is still a good porter. KnutAlbert (3217), Oslo, Norway

Dark, with a hint of ruby.
Round cocoa flavour, dry, refreshing and aromatic. A hint of soot.
Not quite as complex as their stout, perhaps, but it is seriously good. pforei (338), USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 8, 2008 Deep dark brown color with moderate, disappearing head leaving some lacings on the glass. Coffee aroma and flavor is only lightly roasted and melds with the caramel malt aroma/falvor sort of like coffee syrup. Slight chocolate and hop notes in the aroma as well. Citrus hop taste more prevalent upon tasting. Dry, bitter, but clean finish. Thin to medium body. SHANER4 (386), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 4, 2008 12oz bottle - Poured almost black with creamy head and nice lacing on glass as I drank. Smell was chocolate malt and hops which was very nice, an excellent smelling brew. Taste is rich chocolate with heavy mouthfeel and silky smooth. This has to be one of the best porters I have tasted to date. Finishes nicely with hop aftertaste. Sierra Navada makes nothing but quality brews and look forward to trying more. ghostbrewer (9), Massachusetts, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Poured from 12-ounce bottle into one of those special Sam Adam’s tasting glasses. The beer looks great, with a nice thick head -- spot on for a porter. The aroma is very faint, I can barely smell anything, but there is a hint of a hint of malt and hops. The main flavor is mild roasted malt, with some bitterness from the roasted grains and hops, ending with a smooth finish. The finish and aftertaste has just a hint of alcohol astringency. A very decent porter. ketchepillar (491), Des Moines/Grinnell, Iowa, USA

Aroma-Figs, candied pecans, light alcohol, caramel, light hoppiness; Taste- Sweet dark fruits come first. Blunt dark bitterness & caramel commandeer the finish. Good body.
