Dark earthy tones to it with a strong roasted taste that sticks in your mouth. Slight hops at the end. I really like the chocolate notes. I wouldn’t change this one. Damn good and easy to find in most areas JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 2, 2007 Pours a dark creamy deep brown/black with little head and little retention. It has a nice malty smell with roasted elements and a nice hoppy piney element. It was a medium, slightly thin, in body but had a great flavor profile of chocolate, roasted nuts, and creamy nuts. It was also slightly more hoppy and bitter on the backend which I appreciated. Very drinkable exadore (92), Sacramento, California, USA

Poured black with a small tan head, slight roasted coffee taste, maybe burnt malt, but not prevalent. Very smooth finish. Not at all like a traditional porter, but Sierra Nevada has usually been very hopped beers, and this follows the style. riversideAK (2728), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 30, 2007 A roasty and hoppy aroma. Almost black in color with a tan head. Flavor is dry and roasty with notes of black coffee. Finish is rather hoppy with a mild bitter citrus and herbal feel. Definitley way more hoppy than I would expect from a porter, but it’s their take on the stye. It has a nice dry finish in terms of both roasted malts and hops. Pretty good stuff nonetheless. jujubeast6000 (784), Houston, Texas, USA

Hoppy roasted aroma.. Some coffee, some nutty nalts. Roasted coffee, dry mouthfeel. Not bad, a good porter. rdelljh (122), Pennsylvania, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 26, 2007 I am not a big fan of this porter and I love porters. There is too much alcohol and dark harsh roasted grain in this brew. The bittering level is nice though. Kinz (2205), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 25, 2007 Either this or Anchor was the first Porter I ever had, back in the dark days before the micro revolution. I had read about porter long before ever actually stumbling across one. As a result of literally being the only beer of this kind available at the time, Sierra Nevada Porter was a staple in the beer fridge in those days. Although I’ve always liked this beer, I honestly think this is the first time I’ve had it since being on Ratebeer, one of the negative side effects of this site. You lose track of things you love sometimes at the expense of trying something new. In any case, pours the same black color that show ruby through the middle when held up to the light, creamy head. Purty. Aroma is loaded with molasses and rich malt, almost a hint of bacon. Flavor is not as hoppy as I recalled, with lots of molasses, a bit of coffee and chocolate presence. A bit of piney and earthy hops show up on the finish and dry things out nicely. Still a lovely beer.
