smell is cocoa, coffee, toasted malts almost a burnt smell to it.
taste is bitter, bakers chocolate, dry mouth-feel, smooth, strong coffee in the background, actually quite nice of a brew, i like the bitterness that normally is not in a porter. psuCE03 (122), York, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours opaque black with a slight tan head. Smells of chocolate malts and toasted grains. Medium bodied with a super smooth mouthfeel. Taste is of dark chocolates, toasted grains, and coffee. Finishes with a dark roasted malt bitterness.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 4, 2007 Outstanding porter. Dark earthy tones to it with a strong roasted taste that sticks in your mouth. Slight hops at the end. I really like the chocolate notes. I wouldn’t change this one. Damn good and easy to find in most areas JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 2, 2007 Pours a dark creamy deep brown/black with little head and little retention. It has a nice malty smell with roasted elements and a nice hoppy piney element. It was a medium, slightly thin, in body but had a great flavor profile of chocolate, roasted nuts, and creamy nuts. It was also slightly more hoppy and bitter on the backend which I appreciated. Very drinkable exadore (92), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 30, 2007 Bottle. Poured black with a small tan head, slight roasted coffee taste, maybe burnt malt, but not prevalent. Very smooth finish. Not at all like a traditional porter, but Sierra Nevada has usually been very hopped beers, and this follows the style. riversideAK (2803), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 30, 2007 A roasty and hoppy aroma. Almost black in color with a tan head. Flavor is dry and roasty with notes of black coffee. Finish is rather hoppy with a mild bitter citrus and herbal feel. Definitley way more hoppy than I would expect from a porter, but it’s their take on the stye. It has a nice dry finish in terms of both roasted malts and hops. Pretty good stuff nonetheless. jujubeast6000 (799), Houston, Texas, USA
