Commercial Description:
This ale marks our journey to the only place on the planet where fresh hops are harvested in our spring, the Southern Hemisphere. Our task was daunting-we needed to get the hops picked, dried, flown halfway across the world and into our brew kettle in a little over a week's time. The result is a North-by-South fusion of fresh New Zealand hops blended with the finest North American malts. Its robust hop character presents an intriguing floral-citrus aroma leading to layers of fresh-hop spiciness. Enjoy!

24oz Bottle $3.49 Route 6 Liquors This beer is a beauty. Southern Harvest pours a fairly clear tarnished copper with an incredibly dense three finger off white head. Carbonation bubbles rise through the middle of the body to the craggy meringue like head. As the head falls at a snails pace it leaves excellent chunk lacing down the glass. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this new hop variety but what I got was good but a little more subdued then I was hoping for. A solid amount of resinous and sap combine with a slight earthy tone. There’s actually a good deal of complexity from the hops alone. A touch of caramel maltiness and a bit of alcohol round things out. As this warms a little I can’t help but notice some orange oils. Appetizing but a little more subdued then I would have liked. The flavor follows what the aroma suggested, except there’s a little pop. Spicy hoppiness right off the bat leads into a hint of orange and a bigger more pronounced spiciness through the finish. Not as much earthiness as the nose would lead me to believe but it’s definitely there. There’s even a tea leaf like quality floating through here and there. There’s not a whole lot of malt present but what’s there is biscuity and buttery. The mouthfeel is right where it should be. Moderate body all the way through with a slight stick on the swallow. The carbonation is on the lower end of the spectrum and the bitterness grows with each sip. Without a doubt an easy drinker. This bottle is disappearing very quickly and I wouldn’t have a problem drinking another when this one bottoms out. This is a good fresh hopped beer from Sierra Nevada. It’s a treat to get a fresh hop beer in the spring like this. I wouldn’t hesitate picking this one up again. 5/31/08

Pours copper with a white head. Aroma of citrus and some sweet malt. A well balanced IPA with the malt balancing out the hops pretty well. I wish the hops were more dominant, but still a solid beer.

ABV: 6.7 % RateBeer rating: 97 Calories: estimated at 300 C Volume: 24 fl oz. Glass: tulip Purchased at: Towne Wine and Liquor, Princeton, NJ Price: $4.29 Consumed at: home First Impression: A very nice IPA, if a bit commercial. Aroma is very flowery hops, dust and mold. Visuals are a beautiful red - copper body with a bright white head that is persistent with nice lacing. Taste is sweet with a bitter ending - very well done. Palate is crisp, dry, with a long bitter finish, but not very strong. Second Impression - an amazing value - a fantastic IPA for regular enjoyment. Delicious, and done in the true spirit of the craft. Aroma: 8 out of 10 Visuals: 5 out of 5 Taste: 9 out of 10 Palate: 4 out of 5 Overall: 17 out of 20

Due to circumstances I had this many many times. Pours a copper amber with a one or two finger white head. The nose is citrusy, hoppy, grapefruit peel, sweet malt. The flavor is nice and hoppy, very fresh right after its bottled but suffers with age. Grapefruit rind bitterness with some floral herbal hoppy flavors. Bitterness could be more pleasant. Not bad for a single hop brew.

Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival. Hazy amber, small head. Perfumy peachy hop aroma. Medium sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel . The solid caramelly body baths in plentiful of fresh aromatic hops. Finishes with lingering bitterness.

24 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy copper with moderate yellow/white head that lasted until mid-glass and left partial lace. The aroma is bright with plenty of pine and citrus along with some caramel malt. The flavor is definitely tilted towards the hops, with more pine than citrus. The hops overwhelm the caramel malt in the background. Finish is bitter and tingles the tongue. This is certainly one for the hopheads!
