Commercial Description:
This ale marks our journey to the only place on the planet where fresh hops are harvested in our spring, the Southern Hemisphere. Our task was daunting-we needed to get the hops picked, dried, flown halfway across the world and into our brew kettle in a little over a week's time. The result is a North-by-South fusion of fresh New Zealand hops blended with the finest North American malts. Its robust hop character presents an intriguing floral-citrus aroma leading to layers of fresh-hop spiciness. Enjoy!

650 ml bottle from Bev4less. This is a super fresh bottle--they were bringing it into the store and I got a bottle before it even hit the shelves. Pours a translucent copper color with a big sudsy white head that had good retention and oodles of lacing. The nose is moderate in strength with citrus, pine and biter green hops. The flavor was a bit subdued with citrus non-existent in the tasting; other flavors on the tip of the tongue are similarly lacking. This beer does not make a good first impression. But, when the sides and back of the tongue fill in there are some real treats here--I get a good hop bite, fresh thyme, caramel, biscuit and pine resin. The mouthfeel starts light but builds to a full and pasty conclusion. The Finish is long and glorious with lingering caramel and biter hops. Overall: This is an oddball sort of brew--a very poor first impression, but one of the best finishes ever in a SN product. Recommended try for all hop-heads.

Amber body with a bubbly off-white head. Smells like this odd skunky hop aroma. It’s kind of off. Flavor is definitely not the hitting of hops I was hoping for, but it certainly isn’t bad and is certainly nicely hopped. Finishes with a nice malty sweetness and a little hop presence. Nice creamy-like body. All right.

Pours a golden color with a medium white head and plenty of lacing. Aroma is hoppy and citrus. Taste is about the same, not too bitter but very well-rounded. Think BigFoot minus the malt explosion.

On tap at BT. Hazy copper amber in color with a nice fluffy off white head that left a nice lacing on the glass. Herbal, citrusy and spicy aroma. Orange, piney and grassy notes. Hoppy and malty sweet flavor. Caramel notes. Medium bodied. Finish is spicy and bitter. Medium bodied. Very nice beer. Very drinkable.

Tropical orange hue, big sticky hop vine nose, fluffy egg yoke head, mild fresh flavor, strong malts and citrus hop fruit... A pretty tastey beer but a horrific and disgusting concept for a beer. I mean seriously, with the energy crisis as it is how can you justify importing hops fro so far away when you could support local economies and lower your carbon footprint. Poor choice Sierra Nevada, I think less of you for this

20080827 24oz bottle just picked up at Red Bank Spirits. Lightly hazed copper-amber color with sturdy beige head of pillowy foam that laces in thick clumps. In my book, the finest looking IPA I’ve ever seen. Aroma is herbal (savory, sage, basil), with strong notes of freshly broken felled oak and maple branches. Yes, the aroma reminds me of yardwork in autumn. In the background, mild accompaniment of toasty biscuits and light citrus jam. I have a feeling that I may be affected by a great mood, since I’m playing hooky right now, but this beer is going to get a big score. The body is soft, full but not thick, with a pleasing, coating effervescence. Flavor nearly mirrors the aroma, but the bitterness is pronounced, changing smoothly from a citrus and resin middle, to a long spicy tongue scraping finish. Wow, this one has eluded me for a while but I am for sure going to pick up whatever remains at the local shops. Only $3.89 for this - are you kidding me?!
