I was expecting a higher level of hoppiness with this, but actually found it quite mellow. Piney hops with lemon and melon. Bitter but never harsh. Easy drinking yet still good quality.Score 3.8 Subsequent rating scored 3.9. Score unchanged obguthr (1067), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 1/5 | 7/10 | 1/5 | 13/20 | Jun 4, 2009 Hoppy nose with pine and caramel notes and foot funk undertones. Hazy copper with fine suspended sediments. Raucous bitter flavor, resinous pine needles. Caramel malt also detectable. Full mouthfeel. Weak bitter finish, lemon zest perhaps..The high quality of the ingredients are evident, but I’m not sold on what Sierra Nevada is trying to do with this one. Simple and without balance. Also, my sample seems flawed. BenDover (128), Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 4, 2009 Pours a medium/dark amber, bit of off-white foam. Aroma is hoppy and spicy, a hint of pine/resin. Taste starts out just a hint sweet and malty, well balanced really, and then the hops kicks in. Pretty citrusy, a fairly strong pine taste. Not too thick -- really one of the best mouthfeels I’ve ever experienced in an IPA, and this is more than a regular IPA (although less than a double or imperial IPA). Really great stuff. boomer0813 (53), denton, Texas, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 4, 2009 I am not going to lie, this beer scares me, so drinkable and tasty. So easy to pound a 6’er in a a few hours time. So easy to get pretty much completely hammered without noticing you are even past the tipsy point. This is the kind of beer that could make a beer drinker or even beer connoisseur an alcoholic. Great IPA maybe on the edge of IIPA, but either way, great grassy citrusy hop, with just enough malt backbone to make it very easily consumable. Fantastic and a new regular in the fridge (as long as it stays there anyways) Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2009 Citra hops, is that right? Ran through a torpedo that’s essentially a hopback? A little red for an IPA but I don’t like to judge on skin tone. Sweet citrus aroma punches through the foam and assaults the olfactories. The sweet malt tries to assert itself. It never takes the floor. All hops all the time, everything that isn’t hops are behind the stage and merely supporting. A firm hop grip finishes the beer and aromas continue to ressonate in the back of the throat, especially after a burp. Well balanced, a hop heads relief. Evidence that one of the first leaders in hoppy beers can change with the palates of their devotees. ericandersnavy (1139), crossroads, Texas, USA
