jrob21 (1251), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 19, 2008 This was a little underwhelming. Poured a cloudy yellow with a decent white head. Flavor is alcohol meets hops to make a bitter pungent mouth feel. Does have a good body but would love a little more malt balance and presence. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Dec 19, 2008 pours a hazy deep dark orange with a medium size off-white head, and good lacing.
smell of peanut butter, caramel, banana, pepper, malt, and spice.
taste is light and creamy, nuts, caramel, fruit, and spices.
Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Dec 15, 2008 VRBT. Very happy to get to try this one. Medium, hazy orange yellow. Sweet malt aroma. Full bodied, dominated by light malts, a hint of brett, and some undefined fruitiness. Nice, but nothing really leapt out at me. I wanted more oomph somewhere. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Dec 12, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of melon and spices with slight tart undertones. Flavor of spices, some vegetal notes, and Belgian yeast. Heavy mouthfeel, fairly warming too. I dont detect any Brett here. Kind of a disappointment, as this was just a regular, run-of-the-mill, uninspiring Belgian strong ale.
fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Dec 9, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of citrus (I think both esters and hops), more orange/red fruits, some grassy hops, bittering hops, sweet pastry malt, light but slowly growing bretty notes. Flavor remains more sweet than bitter despite the hopping, with the hops just adding a little different take on a beer that would otherwise be yeast-based. The brett again is there but struggles to make its presence known. I would have liked more of the brett, and in general I just didn’t find the hopping interesting enough to make this one all that special. Nonetheless, a good beer. CelticBrew (676), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Dec 7, 2008 Pours from 750 ml a murky, coppery-orange color with a full, white, rocky, fluffy head which settles fairly quickly to an average, creamy layer and leaves minimal sporadic lace. Flavour is that of smooth and light, with a slick finish of french bread crust and plum preserves. Grassy hop, sour fruit, then of raw hops, yeast, and malt goodness. Lovely bitter hops, balanced nicely by light caramel malts and a bit of fruit. Simply delicious. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 Big nose that presented alot of hops at first, resinous as the bottle said, and very floral. A bretty side to became apparent later. Huge resiny hop flavors, malts give it full body, esp for a belgian ale. Finish is very bitter. Brett flavors take awhile to become known. I had this with Thanksgiving dinner and it was a really great partner. slimchill (773), Austin, Texas, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle. Murky pale gold-amber with a bubbly white head. Nose of peach, oranges and grapefruit from the Amarillo hops, and caramel. Huge complexity from the first sip. Fresh grapefruit and orange with musky brett presence. Caramel malt and fruity sweetness against a wonderful sharp musk. Thick and bubbly with huge drinkability.
