PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 750 ml caged corked bottle. Murky, dark orange pour with a soft silky white head that leaves an extremely thick coat of lacing and sticks around for quite a while. Nice aroma of apricots, peaches and hints of spices. Sour, yet sweet flavor with some apricots, spices - cinnamon and allspice comes to mind. Some brief citrus rounds it out in the back end. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. Excellent - reminds me of a strong Saison. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Nov 1, 2008 Luminescent earthy orange color with haze and thick tan head that lasts. Earthy, grassy aromas with a fruity background adding depth and complexity. Citrusy funk is mellow and integrated well. Orange pith, some tea leaves and pastry dough. Strong effervescence. Mouthfeel is fun and lively with playful prickles. Mellow, earthy, balanced, integrated flavors. A melting pot of herbs, minerals, flowers, fruit, and funk. Spiciness as in basil, arugula. Citrus zest. Some tannin-like astringency. Citrus juice splash finishes off the flavors with off-dry delightfulness. Solid, well-made brew. smith4498 (825), Miami, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2008 Pours hazy dark golden color with off white head. Bready yeast aroma with caramel and brett. Flavors of citrus, caramel malts and tartness of brett. Medium body with livel carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. I’d like to try this with about 6 more months on it to see how the brett flavors change. BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Oct 25, 2008 Nice looking beer. Extremely well balanced palate. Niice. Some spice in the carbonation. Yeast, sweet bubble-gum notes, and bitterness hidden in the back.
craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Oct 22, 2008 tasting at GDBTF on 10/18/08. dark gold with 1/4’ white head. yeast aroma. medium to full body. very soft over the palate. spicy on the tip with some citrus and wild yeast. nice finish... Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 20, 2008 In short: A very wild Saison-ish beer with a whole lot of juicy citrus hops. Fantastic
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when 6+ months old. (much better than the fresh bottle I tasted a few months ago
The look: partly cloudy golden body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Nose has a strong farmhouse character along with a nice bouquet of wild flowers. Taste has juicy crisp caramel, flowers juice, juicy citrusy hops. The brett here is incredibly under control and mellowed out by the generous amount of juicy citrusy hops. The beer ends-up feeling more like a very wild Saison than a bretty beer. Body is pillowy, carbonation is relaxed. I had a tasting from a fresher bottle but the beer still had some residual sugar. Now nearly 6 months later the yeast ate it all and the beer is nearing perfection. With an aged bottle everything is so well integrated in this beer that it becomes really hard to dissect or categorise, this is really a tough one to figure out, just like most signatures.
hombrepalo (748), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 20, 2008 Pours a lightly hazy, golden-orange color. A small, frothy white head leaves behind minimal sudsy lacing that mostly rejoins the body. . Spicy and fruity aroma, orange peel, apricots and a soft earthy/spicy yeastiness. Flavor is burly crystal malts, but quite dry, moderate bretty character, cherry syrup, fruity chalkiness (sweet tarts), clean finish, lightly orangey. Not so impressed by this one, expected more from a $15 bottle. thornecb (1736), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Oct 17, 2008 Pours deep amber into a tulip. Off-white whipped cream head with excellent retention leaves sheet lacing. Sour fruit and biscuit malt aromas. Smooth with orange and lemon alcohol spritz upfront , a caramel middle and a lasting tart citrus peel finish. I can taste both brewers - remarkable stuff.
