l1br4r14n (274), Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 25, 2009 A pleasant bready, belgian yeast, a little citrus, some hops, and sweetness from the malt. Mellow. tarheels86 (704), Washington DC, USA Aug 25, 2009 750 mL into Duvel tulips (shared). Pours a clear, deep orange/amber with a three-finger yellowish head that has excellent retention and leaves some fair lacing. Aroma is candi sugar, cherry Twizzlers, strawberry pancake syrup, amaretto. Really just smells like a stale DIPA. Taste is chewy caramel, marzipan, light candied fruits and finishes with spicy white pepper, cloves, and warming alcohol. Tossing the yeast in brings this beer to a deep orange/brown with a seriously long-lasting head. Much of the artificial strawberry character is gone replaced by spicy hops, more white pepper, and some resiny bitterness. Very odd but enjoyable. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Aug 21, 2009 Slightly hazy light yellow with a small foamy head. Semi citrusy and grainy nose. Feels a bit watery but not terribly thin. Lots of grain flavour in here with a bit of tartness. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2009 Bottle. Moderate roasted and caramel notes for the malt, orange and dough for the hops and yeast, with background notes of date, apple, wine, coriander and allspice. Head is thin, wispy, off-white with minimal lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy/murky orange/tan. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic. Palate is medium, oily with a carbonation between lively and soft. Complex and easy to drink, with great balance makes this a pretty good Belgian Strong Ale. KnN (712), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Aug 18, 2009 Pours a murky orange color with a big rocky white head. Aroma was citrus, barnyard, yeast and a bit of malt. Flavor was very bready, citrusy, some nice Brett notes with a solid twang. Nice beer. Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 3, 2009 Murky, copper orange brew with a thin ring of pearly white lace.
Farmhouse twang is evident, but isn’t overly powerful. There’s also an interesting mix of bready yeast and that "corked" aroma for lack of a better term. The aroma is probably what I liked best about this Beer.
Decent carbonation, it starts with a bit of bicuity malt flavor and and finishes dry and somewhat acidic, making quite refreshing. There was just a tiny bit of booze that creeps up in the aftertaste, not a bad thing mind you.
I’m not the biggest fan of DeProef Beers, but this one was quite good.
jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2009 Bottle. Poured a dark body with nice head. Aroma is candied fruit, plums and sweet malt. Flavor follows up the same. nce mouthfeel. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 14, 2009 More Vegas - out of the corner of my eye I see this little circle with Port Brewing in it on the bottle made me get quite excited.<BR.
Dumped out into my glass and ended up with a nice initial off white clumpy cap that didn’t last overly long, decent amount of slippery lacing and a nice clear amber brew (not clear after I shook out the sludge from the bottle!). Immediate aromas of musty yeast, pineapple, lychee, fresh and airy. On the second attempt I get freshly cut grass that was just shook out of the mower bag, mint? Lots here but I’m getting adequately buzzed and don’t care as much right now. The taste is very good and highly drinkable. Early fruit and more than usual sweetness that brings almost an orange quality to it (probably closer to apricot and melon?) Lots more funk as I go. jesus, the alc is going straight into my dome.. I taste an interesting spice that reminds me of a mild yet pungent pepper, in fact, that taste mixed in with the fruit is pretty big right now. Funk (which I keep misspelling f**k) is gaining ground. Mild floral flavours, great mix of powerful hops tossed into this brew, leather. Apricots. Strangely dry somehow, a bit of leaf I think. Now its just bluntly dull. Man, this thing is all over the place which is cool. Seems fairly thick overall, good mouth coating, an out of place bitterness that really works well, dryness and .... crap! I cannot figure out what flavour is directly tied into the dryness - I keep hitting on it over an dover again and thought I would have it figured out by now. Nice carbonation. Finishes soft, dry and with mild hops that sure leave a lasting impression on this version of a Belgian Strong. Fish? aaag. drunk. Review ends with "From Skin to Liquid" by Cannibal Corpse. Excessive scotch has weakend by alcohol tolerance. Signature Ale is well worth the money. Drink the sludge!
