Dry to the nth degree- maybe too overly hopped, but that is what a West Coast brewer will do to try to ruin everything he touches. JPDIPSO (4929), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 11, 2008 Not quite as thrilled with the initial scent as with Les Deux Brasseurs, but still capable. Hazed amber color with a taller beige head that slowly settles leaving a curtain of lace. Pale malt sweetness and orange zest scents. Hints of yogurt, grapefruit, and a nips of funk. Starts with a strong caramel flavor. Flavors not as promising as the aromas in this one. Roots of licorice, more orange zest, light resin, dried weeds and flowers and some spice, mostly from the alcohol, come out. Complex, but not balanced. FInish is fairly dry and the linger is quite bitter and somewhat biting. This is one of those brews that you can sit and think about things for awhile. You can ponder where the flavors are coming from and where are they going, both from a time and temperature sort of thing. Will this be better in a month, or perhaps a year; or is it one that is just going to be as good now as ever? Hell if I know, I’m drinking beer. Enjoy it and shut up. bierkoning (6087), La Tropica, Netherlands

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 3, 2008 This Belgian Strong Ale pours a medium amber color from a corked 750ml bottle. Large sized white foamy head, with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is yeasty, a touch musty and fruity. A medium bodied Belgian Strong Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, lots of orange and peach flavors. The hops are fairly floral. Touch of must and leather. Lively carbonation. Nice balance. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Cobra (1066), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 13, 2008 750 ml. brown Belgian bottle. Corked and caged. Loud pop released the cork. Poured out a hazy orange color, with chunks of sediment, and a huge sticky tan colored head. Aromas are of spicy yeast, sour fruit, some orange peel. Flavors are yeasty bread, sour oranges, white pepper, earthy hops & dry malts. Slightly astringent, highly carbonated. Thick mouthfeel, almost chewy. Dry aftertaste, somewhat chalky. Decent beer overall, but not worth the $16 I paid for it. steview (902), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2008 great! picked up at the Carlsbad PP shop: i initially gathered an aroma of spice (reminiscent of pumpkin), citrus (lemon--acidic quality), wheat, and almonds; the body is hazy, orange-straw, orange highlight, with a soapy white head that leaves little lace; the flavor hides the alcohol well, and has a more floral, less spicy quality than what the aroma initially provided; smooth and creamy; highly enjoyable though not what i expected for a "Belgian Strong Ale" because this *seemed* lighter, and *seemed* more appropriate for, well, but anyway... it’s great and more SoCal brewers need to collaborate with Europe. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2008 750ml bottle. Pours a hazy murky golden orange with a huge frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is subdued, but nice - yeast, sugary malts, some fruits and some hops.
The flavor is sweet malts and fruits with a crisp hop finish with a good amount of bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, a pretty different but nice Belgian. It’s a little too sweet for me.
