Commercial Description:
Siletz BLACK DIAMOND IMPERIAL PORTER is a rich malty porter with more of everything. A generous blend of malted barley creates a veritable orgy of roasted and choclate malt flavor, balanced with the finest NW hops. A beer fit to serve an Emperor. Too smooth and choclatey for a stout, too big for a mere porter...Serve with your favorite bold entrees or just relax and enjoy it alone.

22oz bottle. Aroma is rich malted barley. Sour flavor. Just like a Siletz. Some chocolate, malts. Tart? I like the Spruce Ale much better than this offering, nothing can survive in that one.

Bottle courtesy of patrick767 at Fort Wayne Winter Gathering. Small tan head with virtually no lacing, opaque, no carbonation observed, and a dark brown hue. Nose was malty, lightly roasty, hoppy, sour/tart and chocolate. Flavor was sweet, chocolate, malty and sour/tart tasting.Smooth, watery mouthfeel and light in body. What’s with the sour/tart nose/flavor? Infected or was this the intent of this beer?Weird and didn’t like it for that reason.Next!!

This bottled brew from a Patrick767 at a rating party poured a head of foamy fine to medium sized dark brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a opaque dark brown colored body and a poor lacing. The aroma was hoppy coffee and dark malt. The semi-flat mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of sweet and dark malt. Off the mark old tasting flavor. Not one that I would likely drink again.

bottle - I don’t want to take credit for supplying this one. I’d guess it’s a bad bottle, but I see a number of other raters have noted a certain off, sour flavor, so I think they have bottling/quality issues. Anyway, it smells like roast malt and chocolate. However, while the taste has some dark chocolate in it, it also has a bad, sour element that says infection to me. A date on the bottle would have been nice, but I don’t think it was all that old. Too bad. It looks good and even smells pretty good, but it’s downhill from there.

Mahogany dark beer with a foamy beige head. Dusty chocolate in the nose with an odd tartness. This beer had hints of rancid orange juice. Tart cherries, funky chocolate, odd orange rind. I can’t tell if this is supposed to be funky or not, but as many others have noticed it, I’m guessing it is on purpose.

Bottle: Courtesy of patrick767 at the local tasting. I’m wondering if there is something just naturally off with this brew or if it’s a bad bottle. Either way here it goes. This looked nice enough...a dark mahogany colored brew with no head. The first thing that hit me was a sour metallic aroma that was overpowering. There was some slight malt and chocolate notes there but they were just getting beat down. This pretty much tasted just like it smelled except for some mild woodsy notes to help it. Overall I’m not impressed and don’t think I’ll ever seek this one out.

Pours murky brown with a small tannish head. The aroma has some spice, tinniness, roasted chocolate malt and lightly soured cream. Medium / thin body with lightly spritzy carbonation. The flavor starts with sour dark fruits and light chocolate. The finish is lightly spice and roasty, but still sour. Meh....

From a 22-oz. bottle--Poured a thick brown-black body with a small tan head. Nose of toffee, coffee, molasses, and sweet malts. Flavor was bitter and piny as well as malty and sweet. Tart and roasty finish. Quite good.
