Our Chocolate Porter starts out with an empowering aroma of chocolate. The sensation of smoothness is partially due to the addition of oats. This porter has a coffee-like background flavor that comes from the darker roasted barley blending with the natural chocolate flavor to give an almost "mocha" experience to your taste buds. This could even be served as a desser all by itself.

Sour, somewhat fruity smell. Pours dark with no head and little carbonation. Taste was surprisingly sour (not something I typically look for in a porter) with a bit of cherry flavor and then coffee and other roasted notes. Finish is lasting with a good amount of coffee flavor. Certainly not what I anticipated from ta "chocolate porter," and I’m not a fan.

Nice deep dark brown coloured body with a perfect sized dense light brown head that lasts for quite a while. Aroma of fresh chocolate, deep roasted malt, nuts, cherries and a faint hint of tobacco. Medium-bodied; Cherry and fruity lightness up front with coffee and deeper roasted malts soon behind. Aftertaste shows some complexity with vanilla and oak coming out - but pretty light compared to what you might expect. Overall, a pretty solid beer - a bit light in the taste, but it turns out to be a good thing, more of the complexity shows up! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased over 2 years ago in September 2006 at Whole Foods in Portland, Oregon, sampled at home in Washington on 21-January-2009.

Shared a bottle at Bier One in Newport, OR. Appearance typical of the style. Aroma was of sour cherries and molasses, roasted barley. Flavors hinted at the coffee/chocolate that I expect in porters, but the initial tart dimension was just a little too weird for me to enjoy it much.

bottle, huge gusher that kept going, very sour tasting and lifeless, not a good bottle

Dark and thick as motor oil with an absolutely gigantic tan head. Very nice lacing as well. Very roasty and chocolaty with with an extremely creamy feel to the palate. Would rate even higher if it weren’t for a dose of metallic flavors at the back of the drink. Have had this on tap as well and it’s much better there, something about the bottle messes with it.

Black with a viscous brown head, nice lacing. Roasted malt aroma with bitter bakers cocoa. Medium body. Bittersweet flavors of cocoa and blackened malts which didn’t mesh well in this brew. I love a good chocolate porter/stout but this one falls short.

Darker colored, MONSTROUS head with decent lacing and retention. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, oat. Lighter chocolate flavor, I’ve definitely had better and more complex chocolate porters. I will say that it’s better than most vanilla porters though.

Greatly anticipated this one but was disappointed. Upon opening, it oozed like lava from the bottle. Glass was 95% foam. Finally, it subsided and there was a dark brown body beneath that monster brown head. The aroma was chocolate, bt not a rich chocolate. More of a syrup. The flavor wasn’t much better. Like squeezing some Hershey’s syrup into a mediocre porter.
