Commercial Description:
1st Place People's Choice Award - KLCC Microbrew Festival 2005
Our Chocolate Porter starts out with an empowering aroma of chocolate. The sensation of smoothness is partially due to the addition of oats. This porter has a coffee-like background flavor that comes from the darker roasted barley blending with the natural chocolate flavor to give an almost "mocha" experience to your taste buds. This could even be served as a desser all by itself.

Draught pint at Redbones on 11/16/06 (had it there last year too, but didn’t rate it)
Dark cocoa brown body has some rootbeer/cola tints, definite ruby-auburn edges and shows medium-low clarity. Head is dark beige, fluffy, but small and only moderately to poorly retained. Some slight lacing left on the glass, carbonation can be seen bursting at the surface.
Fudge. That about sums up the nose. But it’s delightfully authentic and though liberally done, I dont think it’s too much. Light roasted barley notes surface, following the deep fudginess, giving a slightly more dry aspect, as well as a light lactic note. Some sparse hopping provides just a slight glimpse of green leafiness, but no real bitterness or fruitiness. Light vanilla tones are apparent as well, maybe more like a warm marshmallow sort of note, but it remains decidedly fudgey and gooey. Medium-high strength, with no alcohol or other flaws noted.
Fantastically fudgey is the flavor. The wonderful gooey/chewy body is thick and substantial and is like biting in to some thick fudge. Light milk chocolate notes emerge, followed by vanilla flavored marshmallows and then a very lactic finish. The tartness from the lactic notes really helps halt the sweetness and cleanse the palate. Oily, dark barley notes give a hint of bitterness and frisky roast, as well. Every sip starts out wonderfully fudgey again and progresses flavorfully until the lactic finish. Medium-low carbonation, chewy texture up front growing a touch oily. No wateriness/thinning, alcohol or other flaws.

Dark brown color with a small tan head. Roasted chocolate malt aroma. Flavor of chocolate and sour milk. Disapointing.

22 oz. bottle - Pours a dark brown color with an average size tan head. Has a roasted chocolate malt aroma. Has a sour, bitter, roasted malt flavor. I guess I got a bad bottle too. I hope its not supposed to taste this way. Will try it again next year.

Looks and smells great! Tastes pretty strange. Not bad, just weird and unusual. I couldn’t get into it very much. I’ll pass next time. Overall this beer tastes more like a moch a stout with a baltic porter mouthfeel. Again, not horrible but improvements are needed to make this a good ale.

Pours black huge tan head. I was really excited about this, but as others have noted, there is an overpowering sour flavor and there is nothing good about it. Sigh.

This tastes infected, but doesn’t have a bad aroma or anything, so I’m assuming it’s just a terrible beer. Aroma is great. Very good chocolate syrup aroma. Black in apperance with no head. THe palate is full for a porter. The taste is extremely bitter chocolate--sour I would say--which is just wierd. The bitter/ sour flavor overrides everything else and ruins the beer completely.

22oz bottle pours black with a very short tan head that leaves a little lacing. Aromas of chocolate, light coffee, and some roast. Flavor starts out chocolate but there is definitely a sour lactic affect to this in the first few sips. Later I found that dissipated though and it was more roasted malt and chocolate. Thin body and not much carbonation. Tough to get past that sour flavor though. Now this beer just came to Ohio this week so I would think this is fresh... Odd very odd..
