Flavor is also very sweet with cherries, caramel, chocolate, toffee and hops at the finish. This is probably one of the sweetest beers I’ve tried. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 10, 2006 22oz bomber bottled January 2006 - Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head that settles quickly back to a film and laces some on the snifter from there.. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, and some roasted malts. Flavor is quite sweet as well lots of caramel there, some brown sugar, roasted notes.. Seems much like an old ale to me moreso than a barleywine. Palate is thick and almost sticky sweet. Not much carbonation. This isn’t bad.. It just isn’t what I anticipate when I open a barleywine from the PNW.. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA
| 0.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 1/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Nov 4, 2006 11/3/06. Bottle. Deep red-brown body – opaque with a yellowed, roasted almond colored head. Large caramel and brown sugar nose (extremely sweet). Awkward and offensive roasted malt flavor. This is absolutely the worst barley wine I have ever tasted. It is not calorie worthy, so after two sips I had to declare this one a drain pour. (Please cleanse palate with Halloween candy). BuckeyeBoy (1670), Boise, Idaho, USA

Nice lingering light brown head leaves good lacing. Aroma is definitely wet cardboard. Medium bodied with decent carbonation. Flavor is soured, oxidized. Moderate bitterness remains. Not very tasty. bhensonb (4287), Woodland, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2006 Aroma a bit medicinal. Can be poured as a beatiful, dark ruby - or with sediment. Has that underlying Siletz acidity - sometimes bothersome. It’s bitter, but lacks citrus. Perhaps a bit too sweet, sort of molasses flavor, but the finish is fine. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2006 This is a monster barleywine that I swear to god has more alcohol than 8% that they told me at the booth. Huge roasted maltiness, hugely hopped and nicely balanced, with a heavy syrupy sweetness, but to me this is a perfect representation of how a NW style barleywine should taste. It is beautiful and offensive all at the same time, this is not a pretty beer, and the aroma lingers and calls to you, just as the finish aftertaste urges you to drink more. This is the kind of beer that could get you in trouble if you kept drinking it. Great stuff! ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 20, 2005 This isn’t a typical barley wine, it isn’t trying to be one. It’s more like a Christmas-flavored highly hopped English stong ale. Murky brown and purple colored body with a filmy sand colored head. Intensely sweet nose of brown sugar, maple, chewy, caramelized sugars, woody, mossy hops and some interesting spicy, peppery yeast notes, even containing a little smoke. A little reminiscent of a fresh Bigfoot. First taste is very pungent, striking, pasty texture, with a peppery, biting, sour and lactic grass flavor. I can see what this is trying to do: it’s almost a nice, peppery and grassy hop bomb.. The finish leaves a coating of gritty paste-like resin all over the mouth. Reminds me of an English style barley wine on steroids. It’s very interesting, overall very sweet - but the underlying juniper, pine sap and "tree" spices are surprisingly good after a few short glasses. Dare I say this reminds me of Anchor OSA at times?
