Black with a one finger fizzy tan head that sticks around for under a minute and fades to a ring. Aroma of roasted malts, ash, burnt plastic, and a bit of sweet milk chocolate. Acidic roastiness up front in the flavor followed by bitter roast and ash and some off tanginess--what is going on here? Somehow I picked up on light piney hops. The pine did become a little more apparent in the aroma after this warmed up. Burps more horrid burnt plastic. This stuff just foams up in my mouth--much like throwing a Jolly Rancher in Mountain Dew--with a light to medium body. This beer was offensive at colder temperatures, and as it warmed it was just annoying--luckily the pine came in and attempted to mask a few of the flaws in this. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 19, 2007 Bomber courtesy my son! Pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. Light chocolate and vanilla aroma. Full body and moderate carbonation. Smooth round taste, but the roast lingers in the lightly bitter finish. bhensonb (4400), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2007 Bomber, purchased at the source about 3 months ago and stored in the frig. Aroma of coffee, milk chocolate, dark toasted malt and a hint of sour. Opaque brown/black color with a beige head that rapidly ringed. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Coffee, smooth dark, toasted, malt, and over all, and particulary in the end of the beginning, the Siletz sour. The finish is a mixed phenomena - sweet and sour. Might go well with Chinese cuisine. The sour is something lactic. It’s not vinegar. I find it interesting, but it just does not seem appropriate. Ah, rate ’em as you find ’em. Skyview (4120), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2007 Sampled on draught at the brewpub in Siletz, Oregon during the ABA 07 Beer Tour. Pours a near opaque dark brown brew with an average sized tan head that slowly dissolves to a fine film. Aroma of toasted multi-grain malts, oatmeal grain, chocolate and some coffee. Taste is medium to full bodied, lightly carbonated, some sour dark fruits, and burnt coffee flavor. Finish is sweet and then a little thin compared to most other dark stouts. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

Serving: 22 oz bottle that I received in a trade with decaturstevo. Thanks Steveo!
Event: Tasting with friends.
Location: Dilly Deli
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Milk chocolate - like creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows.
Appearance: Very dark brown and opaque with a brown foamy head.
Flavor: WHAT THE?!. I’m not even sure where to begin with this mess of a beer... it seems a few key words can describe the flavor: burnt, bitter, acidic, and chalky. The first sip of this beer just boggles the mind; it is loaded with grapefruit peel and burnt malt. After the initial shock, a sour fruitiness and acidic bitterness takes over. Just before the finish is seems really chalky. The finish is very dry with a lingering dark roasted malt and burnt coffee flavor. As this beer warms up, it softens somewhat and becomes less offensive. That really isn’t saying much though...
Palate: Medium-light body, uber carbonated.
Overall: This beer is a disaster. Burnt, sour, bizarre. Where’s the stout?! kramer (2530), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 22, 2007 22 oz bottle, via nolankowal. Pours a very dark brown body under a small fizzy brown head that fell to a partial covering. Aroma is very chocolaty and roasty with a distinct coffee, yeast, and slight lactic notes. Some light chalky hints also. The flavor is a bit too lactic, leaning towards sour almost. Fairly thin, lots of burnt malt, astringency, and some ashiness on the finish. Mouthfeel is thin and watery in texture. Can’t say the oatmeal really makes too much impact with this beer. The carbonation is a bit too fizzy and prickly. Overall, I finished the bottle, but it did take a bit of effort. WSSmiles (124), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Poured a dark reddish brown color with a medium off-white fizzy head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium toasted malty aroma. Medium body. Medium burnt bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of average duration. My expectations where not met.
