Bottle sampled on 1/10/07: Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a thin, frothy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet milk chocolate, a touch of plums and lots of roasty notes. Body starts mildly sweet, roasty and dark chocolatey with a bittersweet coffee finish. Could be a little sweeter and fuller, but still a nice stout.

Bottle: Dark brown, near black pour with a smaller tan head and very light lacing. Nose is moslty roasted malt and hints of coffee. Taste is similar to the aroma with the addition of a bittersweet chocolate and a hint of smokiness. Very creamy mouthful. Subtle and well balanced flavors leave this a winner.

From a 22 oz bottle this poured a very dark brown that produced a big foamy head that settled fairly quickly and left light lacing. Nose was burnt malts, chocolate, and lots of coffee. Mouthfeel lighter than you would expect considering the color. Flavor is mostly burnt malts, along with the chocolate and coffee. Just the slightest hint of hops. Finish is bitter, and not an IPA bitter, but a somewhat harsh bitterness and dryness. I would not call this bad, but not quite what I would expect from a Sweet Stout. After reading other reviews I notice quite a variability in the ratings, and the draft reviews seem much higher than those from the bottle.

22 oz bottle on 1/20/07: Dark brown, almost black w/ no head that turned into a thin beige head as it warmed. Roasty nutty and lightly burnt aromas w/ a hint of brown sugar and chocolate. Well balanced flavor at first w/ chocolate & brown sugar flavors being dominant up front along w/ a bit of roasted coffee flavors. Finishes lightly, then heavily bitter & burnt which lingers into the aftertaste, and also has some herbal hops. Medium body, very low CO2, lighlty dry m/f. Not a bad beer by any means, but I was expecting more smoothness in flavor and mouthfeel since it is labeled as an oatmeal cream stout. Just a bit too bitter for my palate though as I’d like to see more sweetness/malty flavors shine through.

Bottle. Pours a nice dark brown with a thin amount of tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, but not as much as I had expected...with some cofee. Flavor was much the same, again without much gusto. A little on the thin side. Bitter aftertaste. Easy to drink but rather ordinary.

Dark, nearly opaque brown/black with a small tan head. Sweet, fruity nose with some chocolate notes, some coffee, and a hint of soy sauce. Nice assertive flavor, lots of roasted malt, a powerful dry bitterness, some chocolate, and a pleasant balancing hit of saltiness. A nice surprise from BeerCellar2.

Poured a clear dark brown color with a golden rim and small tan head. Big roasty malt aroma with some coffee and a hint of ash. The flavor was big roasty notes. The bitter seems like from big roast not hops. Light body and thin finish. Dry with a light tart finish.

I just didn’t enjoy the aftertaste and it didn’t have as much flavor as I had hoped. A little too hoppy for my taste
