Commercial Description:
Born of humble beginnings and of Scotch Heritage, Fat Bastard quietly arrived one winter day at Silver City Brewery in 2001. Exceptionally smooth and malty with a touch of peat character, Fat's legend quickly grew. Today, Fat stands astride the brewing landscape a behemoth brew, uncompromising and unavoidable. (Formerly Fat Bastard)

Thanks sebletitje for the share. Pours red-brown with an off-white head. Nose is sugar, brown sugar, dark malt, molasses, caramel, fruit, and spice. Flavor is similar with all manner of sugar, toasted malts, caramel, spice, alcohol, and a lingering sweetness. Medium-bodied and slightly boozy, but enjoyable nonetheless.

On draft at the brewery 6/21/09. Pours a nice orange with amber and brown. Little cream head. Incredible toffee and vanilla aroma, but only a faint hint of peat. Very sweet up front, and the alcohol is hidden very well, and has a mild chocolate finish. Medium activity on the tongue. Without the typical peat and smokiness, not an incredible scotch, but overall a very drinkable and likable beer.

Bottle sampled at Noog Four-0 5/31/08 courtesy of unclejedi: Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of some toasty caramel with some light fruits, honey and oxidation. Body starts with decent fullness and rich, sweet caramel and floral fruity honey notes before a slightly drier toasty bittersweet finish. A nice brew, but could use more peaty notes to be a true Scotch ale. Tastes a lot like a braggot.

Bottle an extra in a trade. Pours a dark amber body with a tan cola like dissipating head. Tawny chewy dark fruit, a light woodiness and some scotch and butterscotch notes. A modest etoh warming amongst dark fruit and full body. Nice brew.

Bottle: Deep ruby pour with a tan film of head. Sweet malty aroma- a bit buttery- diacetyl- dark fruits, maple, candied plum and vanilla. Fairly thick bodied with low carbonation. Big malt sweetness but no depth or nuance. Some toasted maple- dark fruit/plummy notes. Some light fruit skin bitterness with sweeter notes of raisin followed by vanilla and mild butterscotch. Just big sweet and toasted with no depth. Didn’t detect and peat character. Eh.

Deep scotch colored with quickly faded head. Musty wood barrel aroma, then sweet honeyed scotch wafts off the glass. Sweetly malty flavor with bubblegum bursts that aren’t so flattering. A bit too much on the sweet side. I question the alcohol content on this batch as the sugariness bespeaks an under-attenuated beer.

Thanks to thethrone sending me this bottle it wasn’t till now did I recognize it was on my want list dam them for changing the name me. So a huge thanks goes out to him for another want knocked off the list The bottle PC correct label and all poured into my DFH snifter produced a whopping two fingers worth of tan head but she didn’t last long. The body on the brew was a darker burgandy when held to the light. Aromas coming from my glass reminded me of a great Scotch, rich caramel, some peat, a hint of smoke, along with some dark fruits Flavors are right up there as well a good malty sweetness with enough smoked peat to keep it from being to coy. Again I got some darker fruits in it as well. This brew is heavy enough in the mouth to make this a great sipper with almost no carbonation to it at all. A great drinking Scotch ale, thanks again for sending it my way. I would drink it again but I probably should have split the bomber the 9% caught up with me in the end
