argo0 (6176), Washington DC, USA Sep 2, 2008 (750ml bottle, thanks CaptainCougar) Small beige head atop lightly hazed copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, molasses, smoke. Taste is sweet, caramel, molasses, smoke, some prune. Sticky, medium-full body, low carbonation. wickedpete (566), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Aug 30, 2008 Thanks to Tom for this one. Black with a quickly fading head. Aroma of sweet strong malt, caramel, molasses, slight alcohol, and dark fruits. Flavor is of dark fruits, raisins, sweet candy sugar. A bit sticky. DA (2421), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Mar 12, 2007 Pours cloudy and mudy mahogany with a small tan head. Rich sweet fruit aroma, like apples slathered in brown sugar. Carbonation wasn’t all that strong, but this beer still felt light and fizzy on the palate, dry in the finish with a slight smokiness. Kinda strange belgian style beer, but rather enjoyable for its uniqueness. Thanks to batkins for this brew. skoisirius (477), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 5, 2006 750 ml bottle into glass. Pours a very murky and dark brownish tan with a semi-frothy medium white head. I also had problems getting the plastic stopper out, but it wasn’t a drastic deal like Perkeo had. Aroma is fairly light with hints of yeast, fruit (apples and pears), and brown sugar. Flavor was a bit simpler than I thought it would be, but was very intriguing at the same time. Hints of brown sugar, Belgian sweet yeast, plums, apples, and figs were all present. Had heavy and sweet malt notes near the finish. Definitely worth a try at least once! Perkeo (310), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 2, 2006 750 Ml. bottle with a MISERABLE cheap plastic champagne-like "stopper" that was so stiff and unyielding that it snapped the kneck of the bottle right under the top rim while attempting disgorgement! There was actually a small amount of blood shed over this so that was not a good set up...anyway, after determining that glass didn’t get in the beer it showed itself to be a highly carbonated , somewhat smokey, take on a dubbel/strong ale thing that was fairly well executed though too smokey for my tastes, but I guess that’s a feature of the regular "Fat Bastard". Whatever, send those plastic stoppers to hell and I’ll check back...
