BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Jun 20, 2009 Draught. Pours clear dark brown with a fizzy, off-white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, bread, caramel), light hop (perfume), average yeast (leather) with notes of dates, apple, and nutmeg. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. chadzter (94), huntsville, Alabama, USA Mar 30, 2009 Draft. Dark clear copper with a slight head. Good caramel sweetness and fruit aromas ( I believe strong cherry). For such a strong alcohol this beer doesn’t taste like it. It does have a spicy alcohol to finish. Overall this is a very nice to end the night with. jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Feb 1, 2009 Sampled at the ’09 Great Alaska Beer and Barley Wine Festival. Dark amber color with a thin, off white head. Caremel sweetness and a cherry/berry nose. The cherry fruitiness continues into the beer with lots of dark caramel, molasses and dark sugar sweetness. There is some medicinal/cough syrup sense to this. Warming alcohol that grows as it warms. This is a damn big beer and it carries it well. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Jan 29, 2009 Draft@ The 2009 Great Alaska Beer and Barleywine fest. Clear copper with a slight head. Good pit fruit and caramel sweet aromas. Rich syrupy flavors of sharp caramel with toffee and pit fruits. Has some spicy alcohol to finish. Tough to spot the big abv here. Very nice.
