DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 11, 2008 26-Feb-08 (12-oz bottle: Purchased 23-Dec-07 for $1.99 at the Pizza Port Bottle Shop in Carlsbad, CA) Now in bottles, this beer features an entry of lightly toasty malts that is quickly joined by very floral and somewhat earthy hops. Bitterness is fairly strong, but not intense or harsh, and lends a long-lasting crispness to the finish. I can’t say I’m particularly a fan of the floral character of the hops though. Floral hop aroma is bright and more apparent than the background malts. Body is medium on the palate and carbonation is medium as well. The beer is amber in color and perfectly clear; I can read a book while looking straight through the center of this beer. Off-white heading is a bit small on the pour and soon settles to a filmy layer. It’s a generic but well-made pale ale that would deserve style points in judging, but the floral aspect just doesn’t grab me.
05-Aug-05(Draft: Six Rivers Brewery in McKinleyville, CA) Your basic medium bodied American Pale Ale, moderately malty, lightly sweet, with a pleasant, mildly bitter hops for excellent balance up front, and then the hops picks up a bit for a nice, clean finish. The balanced nose is mildly malty with a pleasant hop aroma. Amber color, perfectly clear, with an off-white head that retains a thin but intact layer atop the beer and deposits a spider web of lace on the glass. Nice, easy drinking pale ale, well crafted without being showy. (7, 3, 6, 3, 13 =3.2) spikester (437), Salem, Oregon, USA Apr 19, 2008 Updated: Apr 30, 2008Pours amber with modest head good lacing. Citrus hops with sweet malts. Just a bit subdued for an APA. More like an Amber. Like ’em on the light side this is your APA. Alcohol (5.5) was not apparent. Nice smooth brew. riversideAK (1648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jan 5, 2008 Pours clear orange gold. No head or lacing. Floral aroma with a touch of weird funk. Smells like a broke ass SN Pale Ale. Drinks like one too. Floral and citrus with some caramel malt. Not unpleasant, but just plain boring. A little thin too. aspidites (1268), manteca, California, USA Nov 28, 2007 Acidic herbal nose with mild copper penney. Muddy and flat on the palate with mild grain astringency. Very acidic and soapy finish. DA (2472), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Sep 12, 2007 Lacks carbonation, pours and tastes syrupy. Thick caramel taste with a earthy hop finish, although very mild on the hops. Taste was funky, like this beer has sat on the shelves to long, although it just came in so that shouldn’t be the case. Stale finish, slight blackberry vinegar flavor, not a very good beer to me.
