GABF ’09.
On the advice of Dasilky, I tried this beer, finding it to be a pleasant surprise, especially when one considers the difficulty of melding beer with pepper heat. Pours an average yellow with a nose of subtle yet assertive pepper and jalapeno. Flavor is slightly hot pepper with a stinging hot sauce finish. Average mouthfeel but the pepper is the highlight anyway so let’s not dwell on small details. Muy kinda delicioso; one of the only well-made and tasty pepper beers I’ve had. I’d drink more of this.

GABF 2009: Nose was musty, damp, and mildewy...but the chile pepper notes were in the forefront. THe beer is yellow, the head is white. The chile flavors are there and theres a nice chile burn...the base beer seems fairly decent but a little on the thin side. I like the heat here too...but for some reason, the musty/dusty/mildewy presence is distracting me...not sure where that’s coming from. good heat though. I like heat.

Definitely not for everyone, but I like beer, and I like hot peppers, and I have tasted my share of failed attempts to merge the two. This one comes off quite nicely. Nice peppery aroma followed by a good malty mouthful, crisp and refreshing, then it hits you with a dose of flavorful heat. Lordy, all I needed was a pickled pigs knuckle.

Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy pale yellow color with a small white head. Has a fruity spicy chile pepper aroma. Very hot spicy chile pepper flavor. Long warming hot spicy chile pepper finish.

I’m a poor judge of spicy beers because I’m not overly fond of "spicy for the sake of being spicy" anything. But this one had a nice body and full ale flavor to support the challenge of the chile. I could easily see myself drinking this on an overly hot day. Not for the timid.

Smells like someone farted after eating really hot chile. The chiles taste as if someone pored liquid spiced PVC into this beer. Hot and undrinkable.

At Hops in Humboldt 2007 this was a whopper. Looks like a normal yellow beer until you put it under your nose. Then there is no question this is a pepper beer. Mouthfeel is actually quite decent, however and pepper is what this tastes like. You are not even sure it is beer. Remarkable for its type, however, and while it is a bit of a novelty, it is actually decent to drink.

Draft. Murky yellow color with a white whip for a head. Spicy aroma. Flavor is spicy and too hot on the palate in my opinion (and I LOVE hot chili)
