GABF 2006: Hazy amber with a reddish tint. The aroma appeared to be more malty than fruity. The raspberry was on the light side. Light funk. The flavor was btter with nice sour raspberry and some funk. The finish was a little bland.

650 ml bottle - Columbus X tasting

Thanks to whomever brought this along. It was in a hand labeled 22 oz bottle courtesy of aspidites. I had not heard of Six Rivers before but when you have a chance to try a beer that’s only been rated by a handful of people it is worth a shot. I found it a bit boring for a lambic and it is doubtful that I would seek this out. Still it was nice to try an attempt at a style that few American brewers have done.

Aroma / Appearance - The scent of ground Sweet Tarts, sour cherries (like the kind you get in the candy aisle) and raspberries was not a promising start. The body looked acceptable - a moderate red with a tint to the brief head of the same color.

Flavor / Palate - The first sip was a mix of good and bad. The tart raspberries were nice but the breadiness was not. For a lambic it was not intense at all; my stomach did not get the slightest bit upset. For a beer it was pretty fun. For a lambic it was totally boring and below average. I’ll stick to Belgian takes on the style from now on unless I get another shot to try the Upland series.

An old rating i finally got to entering. Aroma was a light funky and fruity. Had a little papery flavor to it. A little stale and not very fruity. Not very good at all or really all that sour.

On tap at the PDX Green Dragon as 6 Rivers Raspberry Lambic, I believe it is the same. Pours red, with a pink head. Big fresh tart raspberry nose. Flavor was like drinking real raspberry juice, very light sweetness and nice tart flavors. My parents grow raspberries, so this really hit the spot, fresh and delicious. Mildly acidic, the base beer wasn’t as acidic as good lambics and lacked a lot of "wild" character, but a nice fruit beer non the less.

On tap at Green Dragon Bistro (Portland) Bright red with pink highlights and pink bubbly foam ring. Smells a bit artificial, sour strawberry candy fizzies with a touch of cherry cough medicine. Sweet and tangy, not exactly that sour. Less sour than even a Lindemans lambic (but it is also less sweet). Artificial strawberry/cherry tanginess thats nice up front but kinda empty on mid through to finish, which makes it taste a bit medicinal on the way down. Maybe like a cherry version of dimetap? (not necessarily a bad flavor...) Decent amount of sourness, bit of prickly mouthfeel, but not overdone with the carbonation- still smooth with moderate mouthfeel.
