Davecooks (1142), Bay Area, California, USA Oct 1, 2006 Draft at the brew pub. (Billed as a triple IPA, 9.9 percent).
Murky brownish orange color with a billowy white head. Big resiny pine, orange, grapefruit and floral aromas. Thick mouth feel that coats the tongue. Nicely balanced between the malt and hops flavors. Somewhat sweet and fruity with oranges, caramel, grass and even some watermelon notes. Very bitter finish. Once I got used to the mouth feel I enjoyed this beer.
DarkElf (2650), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 25, 2005 (Draft: Six Rivers Brewery in McKinleyville, CA) Sasquatch Ale was out when I got here, but just my luck, it’s back on! With a sweet, perfumy, and extraordinarily fruity nose, it smells more like some weird tropical fruit juice than beer. The flavor is also quite fruity and sweet, rather floral, vaguely woody like a wine barrel, moderately bitter, but not all that malty per se. Interesting stuff. Medium bodied, but thinner than I expected from a strong ale. Medium amber color, slightly hazy in appearance, with a tall light tan head that totally diminishes after several minutes. Unique in flavor and nose, it’s definitely not what I expected, but still quite enjoyable. rkuhnel (1100), Eureka, California, USA Oct 25, 2004 Updated: Mar 10, 2007At Hops in Humboldt Micro-Brew Festival in 4 oz glass. This is an update to my previous rating which was based on a 22oz bottle from the COOP. Nice dark color with a great foamy tan long lasting head. Big powerful nose of hops with fruits. Somewhat sweet but with good hop flaver. Excellent mouthfeel with a really great finish. This was a slight improvement over my last try, and my rating is upgraded a little for the aroma. March 9. 2007. Another re-rate. Draft pour. Seems better than ever and love the fruity nose. motelpogo (4111), Plzen, Czech Republic Sep 6, 2004 tap at six rivers. i dunno, i thought it was okay. lots of pine in the aroma and some orange mango cordial. very sweet, tasted a bit like the lemon and brown sugar pancakes my dad makes. but it was a pleasant tangy sweetness and interesting to taste a double ipa without a massive bitter finish duff (5405), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Jun 2, 2004 Tap@Six Rivers. Sweet and hoppy, but without the bitter finish that a good DoubleIPA should, still pretty tasty, maybe i scored it too low, but i didn’t get into it that much.
