mkobes (2038), somewhere, New Jersey, USA Jun 15, 2008 Growler from Fette Sau. Deep dark brown in color with a little off white head. Toffee, nutty chocolatey aroma. Fruity hoppy notes. Malty roasty chocolatety flavor. Doughy malty notes. Crisp and clean tasting. Finish is roasty and dry. Very nice beer. Medium bodied. Drinkable.
sheatripper (826), Brooklyn, New York, USA Sep 22, 2008 Draught at FS. Dark brown (into a mason jar glass) with a thin frothy beige head. Roasty malt aroma, coffee and chocolate notes, light molasses, maybe even some raisins. Off-sweet malty flavors (balanced by a roasty character) of chocolate, coffee and molasses. Seems to finish with a smoky character, but that just could be suggestive from the BBQ essence pervading the whole place. Medium bodied. Reminds me of a schwarzbier. Nice little brew that by design pairs very well with the smoky BBQ meat fare at FS. durhambeer (525), Durham, USA Sep 14, 2008 Draught. Dark brown, but I didn’t think it looked quite as murky as some others described. Small bubbly beige head. Roasty malt aroma. Hints of smoke, toffee, and molasses. Almost meaty, but that was probably just the aroma of Fette Sau. A bit thinner on the palate than expected and much less wheaty than I thought it would be, but solid. More like a schwarzbier, which is actually how the bar manager (who bought it for us!) described it. Solid, and made better by the great food and atmosphere. Glouglouburp (1997), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 25, 2008 Updated: Aug 26, 2008In short: A dirty brown mess of a beer. Probably a problematic glass (I hope)
How: Tap at Fete Sau
The look: Murky brown body topped by a short lived beige head
In long: Liquid brownies, earth, old wet tree branches, extra ripe fruits, uncooked cookie dough, watery toffee, chewy dark bread. What a dirty beer that is. Half-dead carbonation, unsatisfying mouthfeel. An overall light moist and rot sensation. Felt like an end of keg almost past-due date beer. Drinkable but something was wrong with this pint. The last time I encountered such a lazy dirty mason he hadn’t shower for a week and the last house he built collapsed killing three pigs before the wolf could even try to blow it. bu11zeye (3768), Frisco, Texas, USA Aug 6, 2008 (Draught) Pours a murky dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, wheat, smoke, toffee, and light anise. Flavor of dark roasted malt, wheat, nuts, and some cocoa. Mes_and_Sim (4467), Highgate, Greater London, England Jun 29, 2008 A Sim rate (tap at Fette Sau): Lots of alcohol in the aroma. Slightly smokey, but that may be the place more than the beer! There’s something really addictive about this smell (which is odd coming from a vegetarian!). Dark, opaque colour with really nice head. Delightful flavour with a bit of perfume. Tart finish. Wheat, but not at all in the dunkelweiss sort of way.
